Afenifere is just a social-cultural group with little or no influence in the south west. They used to be a potent group that crowned all the southwest governors in 1999 but two things happened.

Firstly, Tinubu rebelled against them, and they almost had him impeached but pa Abraham Adesanya pleaded on his behalf after which Tinubu obliterated them from Lagos politics.

The second thing that happened is that they were convinced by Obasanjo to support his second term bid even though Tinubu advised that they have their own candidate after getting info from Atiku, and contest against Obasanjo, they all supported Obasanjo and they faced another wave of Obliteration in the remaining southwest states.

Tinubu now set out to obtain the power that Afenifere has by securing all the southwest states. Pa Adabanjo never forgave Tinubu for how toothless he made Afenifere, it is even rumored that Pa Abraham Adesanya died of the heartache of the situation.

Rift or not, Afenifere cannot come to my doorstep and be persuading me on whom to vote when I know me, my family and friends will vote Peter Obi. Afenifere's formation can't be more than 10,000 people at most. Even if all of them should give their votes to a particular candidate which isn't possible, it would not change anything. Its like a drop in the ocean, same as arewa elders forum. People are wiser than group endorsements now cos we all go to same market and are affected by same poor economy.

People have already made up their minds on whom to vote. Those who would vote jagaban would still vote him while those of us who are voting obi will also go ahead so, there's no need for all these stories about division among Afenifere. I can only advise all the candidates to work harder in convincing the electorate with their party programmes and manifesto.
