More troubles for Ike Ekweremadu

Adeze Ojukwu

A Federal High Court, Abuja, has ordered an interim forfeiture of 40 landed property linked to Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, former Deputy Senate President.

Justice Inyang Ekwo gave an ex -parte motion, filed and moved by Ibrahim Buba, lawyer to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
#Why has Nigeria and its crop of politicians, degenerated so low.

What does a man need all these properties for. What is the source of his stupendous wealth.

The senator owned all these properties, but could not establish even a community health center or a dispensary anywhere in the country.

Enugu state is agriculturally and culturally rich.
It is not really known, as an industrialized or high-income earning state.

But it is a popular hub for nutritious delicacies, especially palm wine, okpa, a steamed native bean cake, abacha, the African salad, achicha, a local snack and corn dishes.

The coal city produces many cash crops, such as cashew, yam, oil, groundnut, rubber, cotton fresh fruits and vegetables.

Sadly, its agricultural sector has not been developed by governments, so most people are subsistent farmers. They are unable to expand their businesses, due to lack of access to facilities, loans, high tech agricultural equipment, experts, fertilizers, water, storage facilities, effective market networks and good roads.

Unfortunately, the private sector is virtually nonexistent in this area and the agricultural sector, in particular. The political class that should address these developmental lacuns is far from the scene.

That is why, many citizens are angry with Ekweremadu and his co-travellers. He paid scant or no attention to the plight of the people, he claimed to be representing in Abuja. The embattled politician showed little or no mercy to a state that is has a high population of poor people, jobless youths, artisans, peasant farmers and the elderly.

He neither established schools, industries nor even water factories in his state.
Meanwhile, potable water is a scarce resource in the coal city. Many towns in Enugu are not motorable, neither are they linked to the national power grid.

The 9th mile-Nsukka road is a death trap, while the Obollo-Afor road is a nightmare.

Many farmers from Awgu, UDI, Ezeagu, Orji, Achi, Awkunanaw, Ngwo suffer from post-harvest losses due to hardship, transport difficulties and bad roads.

The condition of most natives, particularly rural dwellers is really heartbreaking and pitiable. Yet, stupendously wealthy people, such as this politician, do not care about establishing viable public institutions, to ameliorate the suffering of Enugu people.

Instead, they continue to flaunt their ill-gotten wealth, while seeking for more brazen technologies to embezzle the common patrimony.

Ekweremadu's case is not only shameful, but embarrassing. Perhaps, he and his ilk will pick up a few experiential notes from his current travails.

While wishing the daughter Sonia, a speedy recovery, it is also expedient to appeal to the authorities to pay attention to public health, by establishing standard hospitals for critical conditions especially kidney failure, cancer, organ diseases, stem cell regeneration research, as well as neurological conditions.

The bizarre state of the nation's health sector is a sign of leadership failure. President Muhammadu Buhari spends a lot of time and resources abroad on medical trips. He has shown utmost disregard and disrespect for the life of taxpayers as well as the nation's overworked medical practitioners.

It is a pity Buhari is now globally mocked, as one of the world leaders that globe-trots for medical tourism. What a horrible legacy from a man that, desperately wanted to rule, promising all and delivering none.

This evil administration has pushed the hapless populace to the precipice, with excruciating poverty, escalating food prices, inflation, naira devaluation, power outage and disease outbreaks, as well as high mortality and morbidity rates.

People are wailing and mourning. Suicide is on the rise, while depression is the new norm. Unemployment and youth restiveness have worsened violence and crimes across the country. Many citizens are calling for change. This demand is inevitable, because the current degeneracy is humongous.

Indisputably, Nigeria is a country in need of a reset. Political business has become calamitous for the nation. The political terrain has degenerated into a cataclysmic pandemonium.

The sleeping giant of Africa and its bourgeoning population of over 200 million people are not only the epicenter of poverty and destitution, but have become a laughing stock in the comity of nations.

The country is bleeding on all sides, with the total collapse of its public sector, worsened by corruption, terrorism, economic woes and a comatose presidency. Only an urgent rescue it from the looming atrophy.

Indeed the unbridled siphoning of the public wealth by the political class and their acolytes cannot and should not continue.

Undoubtedly, Nigerian politicians are seriously having a real ball. But it is time to end this macabre dance.

If this evil tide is not squashed, this nation will certainly remain doomed.

Above all, the 2023 presidential elections provide a veritable opportunity to flush out these wicked and heartless rulers, masquerading, as leaders.

Please, kindly share this post until, it goes viral. It is time to call out these horrible politicians.

Thanks for sharing this message. In addition, please also join the teeming population of Nigerian youths and wise citizens, who determined to vote wisely next year. Reject the old cargoes and bring in capable and competent people that will restore the glory of this beautiful land.

Your action or inaction will surely, add to Nigeria's fortune or misfortune, going forward. Cheers!!!
