Governor Charles Soludo has reeled out reasons why the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) will not take the hard decision of supporting the former governor of the state, Peter Obi, in his presidential aspiration under the Labor Party (LP). Soludo, who is the leader of APGA, said that supporting LP's presidential candidate will ruin the chances of the party's candidates at different levels of electioneering.

The governor spoke on the matter recently in Akwa through his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Dr Alex Obiogbolu.

"Today, APGA remains third largest political party in Nigeria. It is the third largest, considering the number of political offices it has won. APGA has a state governor, members of the national assembly, and members of the state assemblies.

"The vision of APGA for the 2023 general election is to expand its reach and spheres of influence. APGA does not consider the wave of the OBIdient Movement as a threat towards achieving its set goals in 2023. The Labour Party (LP) and the OBIdient Movement are offshoots of the PDP. Therefore, they pose a big threat to PDP - not APGA.

"We wish Peter Obi good luck, but no matter how much we wish him, everyone is aware that we also have our own Peter Umeadi, running for president under APGA. Even if APGA should adopt Obi as its presidential candidate, our votes alone cannot make president.

"What we actually want to send as message is that as APGA people, and as Igbo people, we want to prove that one who is rejected does not reject himself. We have seen that politically, the Southeast and Igbo people have been denied what ought to be ours by the major parties, especially the PDP founded by an Igbo man, Alex Ekwueme.

PDP's zoning of presidency to north is big injustice, Soludo says
Speaking further, Soludo tackled the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for giving its presidential candidate to another northerner. His words:

"PDP was founded in zoning, fairness and national patriotism. That was the reason why in 2019, the PDP ticket went to a northener, Atiku Abubakar, and Igbo people supported him; because they see PDP as a party that will protect their interest at the national level. Now that it is the turn of the Southeast to be rewarded, PDP threw the slot back to the north. That is a big injustice.

"Therefore, as a people, we are saying that 2023 is the time for us to recalibrate, and use APGA as a platform to fight for the emancipation of our people; because, we are not oblivious of the fact that since 1999, Igbo people have been taken for granted. And there is no better way to address the injustice than to rally round APGA.

"In 2023, we need to use APGA to send a message by ensuring that all the people that are going to represent us at the national assembly, both in Anambra and other parts of Southeast, are from the platform of APGA. Anything short of this does not represent the interest and aspiration of our people."

Imagine, someone that it was even Igbos that saved him from APC.

If those guys had not suspended their sit-at-home order, that APC crook without certificate like Tinubu would have rigged his way into office.

Guy just wan feel important.
I couldn't stop laughing when I read " those we are supporting".

The people are different from the governors which are why someone like Nnamdi Kanu is more powerful than those governors many of them don't make sense to date.

All the candidates are on social media including BAT and Atiku.
So I don't know what you're talking about.
We want to choose the fairest candidate for 2023.
Vote Sowore, Obi, or Kwankwaso. They look more Presidential than Atiku and Tinubu

Soludo is friendly with Atiku. That's a fact. They worked together under Obasanjo. But being a governor of a state and being able to use that office to sway your people into voting for a particular candidate based on your instructions are two different things. . While I'm a great fan of technocrats in power, it's obvious that Soludo lacks the political sagacity to railroad Anambrarians into voting for a man whose political modus operandi goes like this...

This remark alone is a nail on the coffin of the political progress of Lp and Pa Obi in at least Anambra state if not the whole South East.

These APGA guys will not sacrifice APGA to vote differently on a day both Presidential and National Assembly election is holding.

They will use their political structure, that lp does not have, to tell their people especially in the grassroots and constituencies of the House of Assembly members from the ruling APGA to vote APGA for President, Senate and House of Reps.

Pa Obi can not even win his state the way things are right now. APGA is going to town and villages to tell people that lp=pdp wink

Anambra is a unique state. It would have been better if Pa Obi had used APGA platform. His words of political deceit is now his undoing.

Your support is inconsequential in the scheme of things. Y'all have been yearning for this opportunity for only God knows when and now you are still contemplating on who to support when one of your kinsmen is contesting.

One thing I like about Igbo people is that they have an incredible group intelligence when it matters most.
That is why history has never faulted their political stance in the history of Nigeria's democracy.
I can't recall Igbo (as a group) ever voting for the wrong (i.e useless or incapable) candidate in the Nigerian presidential elections. EVER.
Go back and check history.
Igbo don't waste their votes. Wasting votes is what Hausa calls "Aikin banza". grin
Soludo is only playing smart. lol
On elections day, even Umeadi's family will vote for Peter Obi.

SE politicians are mostly deluded and Soludo seems to be top on that list. This man knows that should Peter Obi win, it would take a long while before another Igbo man will rule Nigeria so he might prefer he doesn't win to enable him stand a chance of contesting for president after his tenure. Otherwise, tell me why he is throwing all these unnecessary tantrums.

Lol

APGA had a presidential candidate in 2011, 2015, and 2019 and PDP won all.

In 2019, Atiku got 524,738 while the APGA candidate came a distant third with less than 40,000 votes.

In 2023, their own son, a former vice presidential candidate, is now a leading candidate. Soludo's allegiance to APGA is inconsequential.

Obi is going nowhere and most political actors know this.
Even Obi himself doesn't believed in his candidature. That's why as a billionaire he's unwilling to spend his own personal money to fund his own campaign.
