What is happening in Nigeria today is very peculiar to multi nation States that have gone through brutal mwars for political dominance orchestrated by foreigners with ulterior motives. There is always a vicious competition for scarce resources which can end up being very clannish and brutal depending on how entrenched and deep the tribal hate within these countries in question are.

The looting in the Niger Delta for instance is encouraged by the subconscious belief in certain quarters outside the Niger Delta, that those who control the levers of power in Abuja are not necessarily of the same ethnic stock with the overpowered nationalities in the Niger Delta. The fact that differences exist in almost every farcet of the different cultures found in the country is a huge factor too. It doesn't help matters that these pronounced cultural differencs are all embedded and segmented in different regional set ups. It's more like a "we vs them" situation.

Add the The "Nigeria civil war" and its western induced outcomes, which have now put a vicious enemy on top of the Oil producing areas, and the fact that those who believe they won the war, seem to see anything from the former Eastern Nigeria as a "war booty", and you start to see the reason why the looting of Eastern resources to develop foreign lands like Niger Republic (with whom the northerners share kindred spirits) is considered okays, even when the same East lacks basic amenities.

The hatred is soooool extreme

Ethnicity is certainly a factor but it does not explain how or why Ijaw kidnapped Ijaw, Fulani kidnapped Fulani or Yoruba kidnapped Yoruba for money.

Even local allocations that used to be sacred are hijacked by locals before it reaches the needy.

The only time all ethnic groups get together and celebrate or even marry is over sharing of loot.

Dansuki was the Father Xmass during the time of Jonathan to please Fulani. Dokunbo claimed he was a Freedom Fighter for Ijaw only to invest his realized bargaining loot outside Niger Delta and Nigeria as Fulani, Yoruba and Igbo politicians do.

There is much more to looting than Ethnicity.
