PDP Crises: Atiku Abubakar The Unifier That Can not Unify

By Peter, E Ijakpa

As the 2023 general election draws near, many Nigerians including myself are following keenly the recent happenings in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). PDP is one of the biggest political parties in sub- saharan Africa but incidents during and after the May presidential primary election in Abuja has thrown the party into disarray.

Crises within political parties in Nigeria is not a new thing but barely three months to Africa's most populous nation's election, Atiku can be best described as a "unifier that can not unify". A presidential candidate that can not resolve his party's internal crises- how can we trust him to unify a more complex country as Nigeria? What is happening in the Peoples Democratic Party is a microcosm of what will happen in Nigeria if the self acclaimed and painted unifier is entrusted with power. Therefore, Nigerians should be weary of politicians who lacks the capacity to govern the Nigerian sate but are running for self aggrandizement.

Haven been in the corridor of power for sixteen years after the return to democracy; the party would have been in a better position to reclaim power after the All Progressive Congress eight years of misrule that has dwindled our economy and has worsen the security architecture of the nation. But with the recent unwholesome events in the party, one doubts if the party has the necessary political acumen to win next year's election; it will be a herculean task, no doubt, for the major opposition party in Nigeria to return to the Aso Rock if the political gladiators can not sit in a round table and resolve the crises rocking the party.

You cannot force Unity on the G5 rebels if they refuse to listen to you and your point of view about the situation on ground....

If Atiku Abubakar should force or insists that Ayu should resign, he would be creating a bigger legal problem for the party.....

Ignorant people cannot see this fact...

A True Unifier does not create another problem while solving a problem.

What Atiku Abubakar is doing right now, is to keep talking to both and all sides....

With the hope that some kind of compromise would be reached...

It is no secret that the G5 rebels are still in pains and agony because

1- Wike their benefactor didn't win the PDP Presidential Ticket

2- That the same Wike was not chosen as the VP candidate by Atiku Abubakar

The only way for them to deal with their Pains and Sorrow is to make demands on Atiku Abubakar that they know is almost unachievable legally.

When the same G5 rebels chose and Sponsored Ayu as the National Chairman of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar was not around and had little input in the process that made Ayu chairman.

Today, because the same Ayu did not support Wike's Presidential ambition, they are now calling on Atiku Abubakar to "force" him to resign in exchange for their support...

If Atiku Abubakar should force Ayu to resign now, these same G5 rebels would come up with fresh demands and conditions in exchange for their so called support.

But whether the G5 rebels like it or not,

Atiku Abubakar is the Next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

A Fulani man succeeding a Fulani man is far better than the evil Muslim Muslim Ticket that the APC is planning to unleash upon Nigeria.

Atiku Abubakar is not taking sides with or sidelining any group within the PDP.....

That is the Hallmark of a True Unifier
