I don't think she's on nairaland. You can go to the bakery and hold an interview with her on how she's been surviving all these while.

It is not everyone that has brain for business.

Those Lebanese, Chinese and other foreigners saw opportunities here that's why they Japa from their countries to Nigeria. The requirements to establish such investments in their countries may be stiffer than here.

Aside security issues, it still beats my imagination, knowing it is not easy, a family man above 40yrs with a steady job will sell his properties to relocate his family without a job waiting for him

not true. The government actually like japa. Nigerian diaspora send over 20 billion dollars home yearly . People like the op are just those who missed out of japa or cant afford to japa and are looking for consolation. The skin colour of the Chinese or Lebanese man already puts him at a 200% advantage . Omo onile, FIRS, LIRS, police, Local government etc cannot oppress him when doing business unlike a common Nigerian. A lot of Nigerians doing business have packed up with huge debt. I am currently in Nigeria. I can see many joints closed down , many shops with little or no inventory they are only waiting for rent to expire.

If so, why are many government officials including private sector elites like Segun Agbaje complaining of japa? As for the bold, these remittances go majorly to the south east, south west and few to the south south. A northern dominated administration would not like that esp as the remittances go directly to the families not via CBN.

I have seen OP's moniker, no wonder. grin

The route of migration they took matters a lot. This new generation migrants aren't taking the same routes, I suppose. But then, that is Europe, I am not surprised.

The number one problem here is that partnership in Nigeria is extremely a tough one, even you would find it difficult owing a business with your bro. Individuals do not have big enough money to do businesses that can really make you. Nigerian workers are aggressively thinking of converting your business, capital to theirs; stealing you dry.

What is this stupidity about accumulating wealth all about This is why Nigeria will never work.

Tinubu has accumulated wealth..
Obi has accumulated wealth
Shettima has accumulated wealth
Go to clubs in lagos and Abuja, you will see guys and girls that have accumulated wealth..

How does this benefit thr average Nigerian?

Have you seen Obalende and Ikoyi?

Everyone wan accumulate wealth leading to Greed.

If you accumulate wealth in Finland, uk, Canada the government will take from you and give the needy. That's a balanced society

I used 3M to RUN from Nigeria in 2017 and I will never regret that decision.

Diasporans are our saviours. The government steals and leave nothing for Nigerians. Most factories and businesses are dead,If not for these saviours working tirelessly to keep family and loved ones afloat with their remittances, I wonder how life would have been

I salute them

great..yea it is getting quite close, but still not really impactful as the outflow matches or even surpasses it. 20billion comes in as inflow, more billions go out as outflow. I'm sure when a report is done about the capital flight due to japa, it will dwarf the $20b inflow by far. Anyway, as you have said, the families that need the money to stay afloat from their relatives abroad, got the money. End of.

The outflow is stoppable with good managers. Look @ahiboilandgas comment on amount paid by msc students in a single institution. Though the motive is to japa

You're even missing the main point.
The so called remittances sent to Nigeria by diasporans mostly come in through the parallel market(aboki),since CBN rate and parallel rate is very Wide ,with parallel rate being more attractive, thus play no part in stabilising our currency against the dollar and as such useless!
The only way to solve this problem is to abolish BDC practices and hence direct such inflow to the CBN .
So technically, we as a country receive almost zero diaspora remittance and therefore diasporans are almost inconsequential to our economy.

bro, e be like say you no know this travel section grin. I know, but I didn't want to go that deep, cos surface level stuff sef, and you'll see some folks will start bouncing off walls. So my submission was based on me simply agreeing to the basic premise that diaspora remittance na 20billion, BUT also reminding them of outflows which are not considered most times when those figures are thrown around, outflows that certainly will dwarf the 20billie inflow. So yes, your conclusion is apt, BUT also of a truth, at least some daddies and mummies and families got some money from the abroad, without which they would have drowned in raging financial seas here in Nigeria.

There are Nigerians in Ghana, Ivory Coast, and China doing business, does it mean that their citizens in Nigeria should not have left their country and that their country have failed them?
