Edgar Davids, Netherlands assistant manager at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, has caught the eyes of football lovers who recalled his sterling playing career with nostalgia. The Suriname-born former Netherlands international was known as one of the greatest players of his generation. Now 49, the pacy midfielder retired from football aged 37 following a brief spell with Crystal Palace. Edgar Davids began his career with Ajax, where he won several domestic and international titles, including three Eredivisie titles, the 1992 UEFA Cup, and the 1995 UEFA Champions League. His fierce style of play in the team’s midfield earned him the moniker, ‘The Pitbull’ from Ajax manager, Louis van Gaal, who is the current manager of the Netherlands national team. Edgar Davids subsequently played in Italy for AC Milan, and later enjoyed a successful spell with Juventus, before being loaned out to Barcelona in 2004. He went on to play for Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur before returning to Ajax. Many fans who watched the player back in the days recalled his professionalism and dedication.
