The dancing senator should take it easy nah. Permanent Secretaries are civil servants not political appointees. Hence, they can't be fired any how, Civil/Public Service Rules are guiding their service not whim and caprices.

I agree with you. It's the abuse of power that our super governors indulge in.

Wike will regret all his actions in no distance future.

If Rotimi Ameachi promoted them unjustly, he can only review their promotion in line with Extant Rules.

They were promoted justly. Just that he doesn't want any PS that is close to Amaechi to be feeding him with vital information about the government. The present HOS was a Wike's mole in the Amaechi's government. He was the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary Ministry of Justice during Amaechi's tenure. He was elevated to HOS as a compensation. He has even passed the mandatory 60years but Wike is still retaining him on contract. To worsen matter, he was made a member of the PDP governorship candidate campaign organization.

To be frank, Wike's 7+ reign has killed the Rivers state civil service. No career progression. No professionalism. Virtually all the PS have exceed 60years and are kept on contract basis.

In Rivers state, are your Perm Secs appointed outside your Civil Service?

A Director may not be appointed Perm Sec if there are no vacancy in his local government, in the case of States and if there's no vacancy in his state, in the case of Federal. Another reason could be if the Director has disciplinary actions against him or he failed exam. Aside these, there's nothing stopping a Director from becoming a Perm Sec even if the Governor doesn't like his face.

As the state level that's what is applicable. The entirety of the local government must be represented. Secondly, during Odili's time it was man know man for the appointment. Ditto Amaechi. But at the tail end of his tenure, he introduced exams for Directors wishing to be elevated as PS as a way of engendering professionalism. But the moment Wike came everything changed. For the past 12years there hasn't been promoton in the Rivers state civil service. Those appointed by Wike are still being retained on contract basis despite having exceeded the retirement age of 60years. Even right now there are civil servants on level 14 that ought to have been made Director receiving level 14 salary.

oga just few directors does not stand or represent the entire civil servants.. Some of the so called directors are not even liked by the larger populace of the civil servants in their department self.... Bro I dare any of them to accept the appointment... Just leave that thing you are saying, I have worked in a particular government house and I know how these tinx are run over there.. Do you know there is an action by the governor far worse than sack to a director or permanent secretary? That can even make them the proud ones among them resign Bro no head of any service or ministry want to have issue with an incoming governor, especially to an opposition party... I give u 5 months and see as all of them will be decamping up and down...

You are talking like this because you are ignorant of Osun State politics. Adeleke is not the first person to try this nonsense in Osun. Bisi Akande tried it, go and ask where it landed him.
Osun is not like yor state where they don't challenge your Governor. You can see even Pdp members from Osun already cautioning Adeleke.

Meanwhile, Adeleke won Osun by less than 30k votes. The votes from Ejigbo LG alone were more than 30k. Already, there are reports of voting beyond the stipulated time in Ejigbo. Just yesterday, they said BVAS wasn't used.
As it is, the election petition can swing either way. So, PDP members from Osun are even the ones even cautioning Adeleke.

The office of a permanent secretary is political. Same for that of head of service. You can be fired at anytime!

You can fire but you can't threaten them not to accept PS position. Let them collect, then retire them. Anyway, they retire as Permanent Secretaries. You can't demote them.

All I am saying we can get it right in this country if you read my first post I believe you will understand what I am saying
I know it's a procedure but we can do better, to curb all this political appointment...with fews days remaining.....haba
There is nothing that should be changed in the time-frame between election winning and office resumption. That's why I responded to your comment of why he has to wait one month to resume office as governor elect.
The onus is not on anyone waiting one month to resume office, but the current office holder to be responsible in the final days in office. The only person needing to do better is the outgoing office holder and not us as a country.
If I win an election and my predecessor appoints people to offices outside due process 30 days to my resumption, I won't even make an announcement like he has done. I will wait till resumption, sit with my Head of Service and Attorney General and get them removed from public service retaining the current position/level they had on the day I won the election.

Good!

You can't take up an appointment barely 4 days to the end of a 4-year tenure and expect to be duly recognized by the incoming administration.
Honestly,d thing look somehow to me ooooo! So he didn't see the potentials in them until ds last minute? APC is synonymous to Evils in the land. May God Almighty give us total cleansing over them, amen. It's high time Nigerians (especially youths) decided how to live a peaceful/meaningful life and how to governed. Am tired of bad news on daily basis. Obi/Datti all the way to the villa come 2023 by the grace of the Almighty God, amen.

All employments and appointments after defeat at the poll are political frauds. If I were in the shoes of the new governor, I would make sure even one nail of them remains.

Press Statement
24/11/2022

Adeleke to Coordinating Directors: Accept Permanent Secretary Appointment and Get Fired on November 28th.

Any Coordinating Director who accept a permanent Secretary appointment from outgoing Governor Adegboyega Oyetola will exit the service from November 28th, Osun State Governor-elect, Senator Adeleke Ademola Nurudeen has warned.

In a statement by his Spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the Governor-elect affirmed that taking such appointments at this last minute indicated the readiness of those directors to exit the state service.

"We want to put on records that those who accept the appointments should be ready to leave the service whether or not their service tenure has reached statutory age. The occupants will be treated as political appointees who will automatically follow the outgoing Governor out of public service from November 28.

"At the same time, those who still want to remain in service of Osun state government should decline the Greek gift from the outgoing Governor. We affirm that no waiver will be entertained in sacking from office any kangaroo permanent secretary", the statement concluded.

Mallam Olawale Rasheed,
Spokesperson to the Governor-elect

Is there a law to back up such a threat? Or is it a case of "lawlessness is lawful only if it's being carried out by us", which seems to be the bedrock of Nigerian politics (and people).
