The body of American fighter Joshua Jones, call sign “Jesus”, was returned to Ukraine as part of a prisoner swap in mid-October.

24-year-old Joshua Jones, a Memphis native and a devout Christian, was killed in Kharkiv Oblast in August while fighting alongside the Ukrainian military.

“I’m proud of my son. He was selfless in risking his life for a country that we have no connection to. But he felt the calling, and there was no talking him out of it.” said his mother, adding that it felt like the weight of the world had been lifted off her shoulders.

The Ukrainians said that they were able to identify the body by Joshua’s tattoos and other marks. The Russians had sent photos of the body in advance.

“Joshua was a soldier; he was a born soldier. He was named after the battle of Jericho, and he proved he lived up to his name so valuably.” stated his mother.
