Please don't give away your ceiling fans for peanut that it's faulty.the fan can still work has brand new fan if service properly.the malfunction you notice could be from a bad bearing,as there's bearing up and down,it probably just needs to be oiled to stop that noise.also the coil has three terminals attached untop the core, when one of the terminal is shorted it will not function well.lastly the capacitor needs to be checked.
