Google Earth In Nigeria: How Often Does Google Update Images In Africa? by Rotji(m): 10:23am On Nov 30, 2022
I have observed, searched and discovered that Google Earth images in Nigeria were updated last in 2020 during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. This I arrived at by noticing that images of all educational institutions are still captured as 'Temporarily Closed' which was the order of the day during the peak of the 2020 pandemic.

This old images can be seen across most of Africa, which means that while Google Earth images are updated monthly according to their FAQ, the case is not the same in Africa.

Also to buttress my point, some buildings under construction have maintained same level since 2020 and new buildings constructed since 2021 are yet to make it to the current Google Earth maps.

Please is there reasons why it takes so long for such developments and images to be constantly updated on Google Earth as it's done elsewhere in the world?!

Also I have discovered that the quality of Images in America and Europe are HD quality while other places are just normal or even blurred in certain areas, is this as a result of differences in quality of satellites operating at different locations or what Please angry

One picture here is the screenshot of the Google Earth image of the Cathedral Church at Marina Lagos Island, the other is the Westminster Church in London and the 3rd is the Google Earth image of a place in Bauchi State still showing Schools as 'Temporarily Closed' which was the case in 2020 during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

I've noticed this too, your observations are correct
I visit lots of places via the Google earth app(he dey chop data sha) and to get even streetview option is almost impossible when I'm checking out African countries except SA,DR Congo is the worst so far whereas if its an American or European country everything is super clear and street view is almost everywhere even Asian countries are commendable
South American countries aren't that good too,I think its due to the fact that these countries are much more advanced technologically than us hence the huge gap
Kowe,DRC no street view
Somewhere in Belgium,street view available

Does google generate the same amount of revenue in those countries when compared with Nigeria

Are the roads motor-able in Nigeria Are they safe ( i noted police escorting the google van doing the street views). You know how much that costs See below

Do you know how much those planes cost vs the budget for africa

How many Nigerians use these maps to justify spending huge on it

This una entitlement ehn. Its called business case. Division 3 club cannot compete with EPL in finances and reach.
The uber being used in uk vs uber in Nigeria- na same quality
If you are not satisfied then open a Nigerian company to do it grin

You made valid points actually, which a layman should consider just that you carry small vawulense add on top grin grin it wasn't entitlement but just a curious mind and regular user of Google Earth trying to understand how and why certain things are experienced on the app.

Thanks for your enlightenment,,I was thinking most of the images are acquired via satellite, I didn't know they go street to street to get pictures grin grin grin

You can also contribute to those images you see on Google. 90% of Americans uses iPhones and other sophisticated devices to capture those images and upload them while just 5% of Nigerian contribute to Google earth. Those that contribute end up using devices with tag "Itel Dual Camera" on the images grin

Google is not serious, I sent them a mail to pay me to contribute and give them quality stuff, but they are looking for free contribution.

On satellite images, I noticed the city's/town network might contribute to the image quality. Forget it, we in Nigeria are still stuck in the 17th century.

people are also supposed to contribute things like closed roads, bad roads, accidents etc. i was in Nigeria recently and used google maps. It led me to road that traps car due to road construction. I updated it next day and the app changed the route away from the road

I will start doing this as much as possible. It has never occurred to me to do this, although I rarely use street view.

A multi-billion dollar company is not serious, and she should pay you when she did not pay consumers in richer nations to do the same thing. grin

I don talk am say this una braggadocio should be televised for the world to see how some humans behave.

When we tell them that sub-Saharan Africa is notoriously poor, one would be accused of using vile words. It is like many Nigerians don't know the overreaching effects of the wanton and multidimensional poverty in Nigeria o aka the Giant of Africa. Then imagine it in Uganda and Liberia? One even mentioned DRC, to him, he has mentioned a notable country. grin grin grin

DRC is a country! Either poor, underdeveloped or what not doesn't matter and if you do read you'd understand why I mention her.

Wow I'm really learning here, thanks. I do make contributions to Google Map and will like to have more information and knowledge about this stuff to make my contributions very valuable.

True the poor nature of our networks here are not helping matters. Google should should find ways of engaging both active and passive contributors to make it easier for people to access and use in these parts of the world.

It might surprise you to know that more and more people are using Google Map and Earth increasingly. I have personally helped install Google Earth on a lot of people's phones and laptops

Unfortunately for DRC the unending conflict and the nature of its brutality will definitely make gathering and obtaining data for Google very herculean. So I understand if the available data and Images from there are the poorest.

Yeah I'm a contributor to Google Map, I just feel there are a lot more I need to do because data from this side is so little
