DELGA Chairman Pledges Support For 2023 Census Exercise
••• As LGA NPC Committee Gives Report

The Executive Chairman of Degema Local Government Area, Hon. Michael John Williams, has pledged his administration's commitment to support the forthcoming National Population Census, to be conducted by the National Population Commission (NPC), slated for April 2023.

The Council Boss gave the assurance, Wednesday, when he received members of the 9-man Committee, set up by his administration to facilitate the exercise in the LGA.

He noted that the forthcoming census was a very important event to the country and his administration would do everything to ensure its success, including sensitizing and galvanizing the people of the LGA to fully participate.

The LGA helmsman assured adequate security for personnel and materials throughout the period of the exercise, while also pledging to give logistic support to facilitate the programme.

The DELGA Sheriff, who approved designated government-owned schools as venues for training of adhoc staff for the exercise, equally disclosed that a sensitization meeting between community leaders and other stakeholders would be convened in the coming days at the Council Secretariat.

Earlier, Chairman of the LGA NPC Committee and Supervisor for Transportation, Hon. Inema Oruobu, stated that their visit was to brief the Council Boss on efforts made so far, inline with their terms of reference.

Oruobu stated that following the assurance of the LGA NPC Coordinator to recruit indigenes as adhoc staff for the exercise, the committee members had greatly sensitized and encouraged their people to apply for the ongoing recruitment, noting that the compliance so far was very encouraging.

He however, relayed the appeal of the Commission from the Council to include, approval of government schools as training centres, office space to operate and store materials, security for personnel and materials, transport logistics, amongst others.
