OVER / UNDER BETS

This type of bet is based on the total goals of a soccer game. Generally, the bookmakers set 2.5 goal as the line and the punters choose under 2.5 (no-score, 1 goal and 2 goals) or over 2.5 (3 goals and more).

There is no draw (push) possibility of this bet. It means you will win or lose your stake at the end of 90 minute time. You have 50% chance to win the bet. No extra-time or penalty shoot outs after 90 minute counts for this type.

Example:

Arsenal v Charlton – Under 2.5 = 1.95 – Over 2.5 = 1.90

* [b]Consider that you bet 100 on Under 2.5 goals. If the game ends with 0,1 or 2 goals at the end of 90 minutes, your stake will return as 195.

It means you have 195-100 = 95 profit.[/b] If the game ends with 3 or more goals, you lose your stake.

For some games, the bookmakers offer under/over 3 goals. It means you will get your stake back if the game ends with 3 goals.

How do I play this market?

My bookmaker offers over/under 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 4.5
What i do is simply[b] 1) check the matches that has this market[/b] whether the clubs involve are strong or popular does not count, the major thing that counts is there goal scoring strength.
2) I analyse there the two teams goal scoring strength (how to analyse a team goal scoring strength will be shared next time in this thread keep watch)
3) Analysing the team's goal scoring strength help me know the average goal that the match will produce, with this knowledge i simply place my bet.
N/B: If from my analysis the teams scoring strength is 3 I simply go for over 1.5 market and place my bet, this method has not failed me once. try it, it works like magic.

My pick: I will go for Under 2.5 goals for Everton vs Liverpool. Right now my bookmaker is offering 15.66 odd for it. I dont see this match producing more than two goals. Is just that is a LAY BET meaning that what i stake is what i will get with higher liability

Lay Betting and Betting Exchanges

Lay betting is used to describe bets on an event not happening. When applied to sportsbooks this means punters can bet against a team winning a tournament. In this context conventional betting on a selection is described as back betting.

Although the concept of lay betting might sound novel to many punters, all simple match bets are effectively lay bets, where the punter could be perceived as betting against a particular team winning the match.

Lay betting is not offered by all sportsbooks, and tends to be offered by betting exchanges. In Nigeria we have only two betting exchanges which are very effective. Exchanges do not play the role of traditional bookmakers, setting odds while taking in and paying out bets. Instead, their function is to match lay bets against back bets.

Example:

A punter wishes to place a $30 lay bet against Man u winning Man city at odds of 2.5. This means the punter is betting on an outcome other than Man U winning the match.

A betting exchange will allow the punter to deposit his $30 stake, and then attempt to match this to another bet where a punter is prepared to wager $10 Man u winning the match  for a potential profit of $30.

If Man U lose the match , the lay bet wins, the back bet will be paid out to the lay bettor along with the $30 deposit for a total return of $40. If Man U wins the match, the back bet wins, and the back bettor is paid out the lay bettor’s $30 deposit along with his $10 stake for a total return of $40.

From this example one can see that lay betting is best used when odds on a selection are short, and is for this reason often used only on strong antepost favourites.

Why Participate in Lay Betting and Betting Exchanges?

Betting exchanges are popular because both because they allow punters to select their own odds and because the present an opportunity to bet against contestants in sports events. While extreme odds are unlikely to find a match, the prices that can be generated are often better than those offered by fix-odds sportsbooks.
