Lawyers and 30 newly appointed Senior Advocates of Nigeria on Friday disobeyed a directive from the Nigerian Bar Association not to attend the 2011 investiture event, which was scheduled to take place in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The NBA had directed all its members to boycott the ceremony in protest against the suspension of the president of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami, by the National Judicial Council.

Despite the order, the 30 new SANs turned up for the event at the Supreme Court of Nigeria, alongside several other lawyers who came to witness it.

However, the bar association made good its pledge to boycott the event as a body.

The SANs inaugurated on Friday were those selected for 2010 and 2011.

Some of them are Pat Onegbedan, Isaac Nwazue Ijioma, Agatha Obiozo Mbamali, Dan Ose Okoh, Kenneth Ekene Mozia, Yahaya Mahmood, and Ferdinand Oshioke Orbih.

Others include Olanrewaju Ayodele Ogunlesi, Anthonia Titilayo Akinlawon, Oluwemimo Adepoju Akinlanwon, Oluwemimo Adepoju Ogunde. Prof. Imran Oluwole Smith (Academics), Ikechukwu Ezechukwu, Okechukwu Amechi, Nnadi Jude Ositadinma and Abiodun Jelili Owonikoko.
