The Atlas Lions of Morocco has made history by becoming the first African team to reach the Semi-Finals of a FIFA world cup after defeating Portugal 1-0 in a thrilling quarter-final encounter on Saturday.

A 42nd-minute header by Youssef En-Nesyri was enough to send the North Africans into the semis to do battle with France for a place in the Final.

The victory for Morocco also effectively ended Cristiano Ronaldo's dream of lifting the world cup for Portugal.

The 37-year-old five-time Ballon D'or winner is expected to retire from international football before the 2026 world cup.

Also, Morocco remains the only side yet to concede a goal from an opposition player since the start of the tournament in Qatar.

Two more victories for Morocco in Qatar will see them make history as the first African nation to lift the FIFA World Cup. The entire continent will be cheering the Atlas Lions for glory in their remaining fixtures of the competition.
