Nigeria just voted in favour of Islamic Republic of Iran currently against the rights of its women at the #IRIoffCSW?
The Islamist Government have been killing and hanging Iranian people for demanding freedom.
The United Nations has removed the Islamic Republic of Iran from the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). (29 YES, 8 NO) Yesterday, in a letter from prison, 14 imprisoned women activists supported the removal.

Nothing new! They dragged Nigeria into OIC and one chronically sick drug baron said imposing a Muslim Muslim ticket is the best solution for competency. So what else does one expects?

We should have abstained instead of voting for cruelty against women. Those women are fighting against oppression that has led to many deaths.

Nigeria had separate self governing regions at Independence, which though not perfect ensured that each region had its destiny in its own People’s hands.

Some soldiers led by a Major (Emmanuel Ifeajuna) planned a coup and disrupted this initial governing arrangement. At the end an army General (Aguiyi Ironsi) emerged and muscled the regrouping members of the government to hand over power to him a military officer. He quickly proceeded to destroy the regional arrangement by supplanting it with decree 34 of 1966. The decree made Nigeria a unitary state that gave him (Ironsi) the central authority and absolute power to administer all resources in Nigeria.

Some people, majorly from the southeast region thought this new arrangement was the best judging from their widespread celebrations initially, but the ensuing events proved them terribly mistaken as things took a rather dramatic turn.

Others from the north who felt targeted by the first coup quickly planned their own counter-coup and wrestled power back from the General (Aguiyi Ironsi) howbeit even more violently than the first. In its wake, Nigeria had a civil war killing its own people to make them remain as part of the project. Would an elected government have been able to mobilize the military against its own people or would there have been any need fir a war in the first place? Don’t think so.

Consequently, that unitary system has remained in force under different leaderships since then and has produced and continues to produce several setbacks for Nigeria: the civil war, unbridled corruption, pervasive quota system (even by regions with least education or competence being put in key sectors of the economy), unhealthy rivalry, nepotism, lack of accountability, watered down educational systems solely to make room for disadvantaged regions to catch up with their counterparts, a nation federal only in name but not in practice, wastes and more wastes and corruption with each passing budget year etc etc etc.

This is why those who understand how Nigeria got here smile when they listen to one sided agitations from some sections of the country without any attempt at a balance of any sort. The truth is that section caused most of the mess but do not even acknowledge it let alone take responsibility.

How can you solve a problem that you have failed to even identify its source or cause? The result simply put is- chaos!

Undo the unitary system of government today and watch the different regions in Nigeria fly like eagles, including the so called disadvantaged region that continues to force a lopsided quota system on others. After all, every region thrived even if in varying degrees before the unitary decree was promulgated.

That is the most critical conversation that dwarfs all other calculations- weighty as they may seem. But not many people are paying attention to it. Cheers!

yeah. am aware of the coup of January 15 1966 and aguiyi ironsi suspension of parts of constitution, and introducing unitary/central government, cos of his greed for absolute power

More like, Nigeria voted against Western politicization of "Women Rights" against Iran.

Not long ago, the Western block voted against a UN resolution condemning Nazism. UN is a joke!
