Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain Hamlet by William Shakespeare The Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust The Stories of Anton Chekhov by Anton Chekhov Middlemarch by George Eliot time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,1578073,00.html Of course I've read Shakespeare's Hamlet as well as Mark Twain's Huckleberry, Scott Fitz and George Elliot are household names but i'm sure i would've remembered if i'd read either of their listed books. Same here. Read Huckleberry Fin and Hamlet many years ago. I think The Great Gatsby is one of those books people own but never seem to read. Somehow one would have imagined Things Fall Apart to make that list. . . Oh well. |
