The South’s military was caught off guard, drawing criticism on Tuesday from President Yoon Suk-yeol, who sought to assuage concerns by announcing his cabinet would fast-track plans for a special drone unit.

What: Five North Korean drones crossed into South Korea on Monday, prompting Seoul to scramble fighter jets and attack helicopters to try and shoot them down.
When: The drones were first detected in South Korea at 10:25am (01:25 GMT)
Where: The drones were first spotted over the northwestern city of Gimpo but flew over multiple South Korean cities, including the capital, Seoul.
South Korea’s military fired warning shots and some 100 rounds from a helicopter equipped with a machine gun but failed to bring down any of the drones.

The military said it chased one of the five drones over the greater Seoul area but did not fully aggressively engage with it out of concern for civilian safety.

A defence ministry official confirmed a South Korean KA-1 fighter jet was involved in an accident while flying to counter North Korea’s drones after departing its Wonju base in the country’s north. Its two pilots escaped before the crash and were treated in a hospital.

What has the reaction been in South Korea?
President Yoon expressed concern on Tuesday at the military’s inability to bring down the drones at a time when the country is looking to combat the North’s evolving nuclear and missile threats.

Most or all of the current air defense system available in the world today are not built to detect drones. They are built to detect explosives and steal which are the major components of fighter jets.

Some drones are made of plastic. Clay material was used to build Turkish TB2 drones reasons why Russia could not intercept them and the tb2 drones caused a lot of havoc for Russia troops when the war started. Although now all the Turkish tb2 are destroyed by Russia but it took a long time before Russia could achieve that.

Only Iran air defense system was able to detect and destroyed US drones on two or three occasions.

Even France failed. There was a time a drone was flown around strategic locations in Paris. It caused a lot of panic through out France. Up till today France does not know where the drone came from.

Countries are just building air defense system for drones most countries don't have technology to detect and intercept them.

the reason is simple they can not produce food because the mainstream media said so then since we have not visited those countries we have no way of verifying their claims. As for the weapons even when the mainstream media says they are not good enough the weapons will always showcase their capabilities when they are deployed .



The thing is nobody has a monopoly of knowledge the west think and believe nobody can produce high end tech apart from them especially in the areas of military hardwares that is why you see any military equipment your are buying from US is always cost. Recently Israel grounded some advance fighters that they acquired from US due to the recent crash of one of the same model in US

If Iran can produced some of the world best drones and def system that even shut down USA best drones even through those def system are Russian tech but for Iran to made it, shows everything.
A war between Iran and SA will end up finishing SA since almost all SA military officers are foreigners and their pilots are also pak just like Libya troops before the war.

They will come to office to drink tea and sugar then go home and sleep.

The fact that Iran hacked USA best drone and landed it successfully, which allow them to built copies of it, even when Iran was sanctioned, shows the world can't be control by anyone.
If the news of Russia buying of NK artillery and Rockets are true then NK just scored massive weapons deal with Russia just like Iran did.
