Are student in those schools more brilliant than student in public schools? It's that slavish inferior mentality we're talking about. Americans, indians or Chinese don't look for perfection in english but hey, a Nigerian wants to speak english more than british king, some even shame their fellow countrymen on it. English is just means of communication and is not a prerequisite for intelligence.
No one is trying to be a British wannabe. English is needed in UK and Nigeria has English as it's official language. Also, isn't it your brothers n sisters that troop I to UK cos of bad economy and isn't it your father and his colleagues that are at helms if power that misruled the country?
I know Japanese, Germans etc speak English anyhow but their economy is good. They don't Japa anyhow

What app did you use to learn those languages pls

I didn't use app, I used textbooks. But mind you, I've lived in Poland and the Netherlands, so learning made it easier since I practice everyday with it in real-time.

I tried learning French, but it was impossible to grasp simply because I dont live in a country that speaks French.

I would rather remain in Nigeria and hustle than to travel to UK. Except I have intention of applying for US or Canadian visa immediately I arrived UK.
Uk will make a generous man stingy because the economy is designed to make you pay for everything. Wetin remain na to tax you for the air you breath.

At a professional level, I speak two languages. English and Dutch. At a conversational level, I speak Polish. Apart from English, I learned Polish and Dutch on my own. No language school is involved since I am an autodidact by nature and do better studying on my own than via traditional school.

Just two? Expected to see much more than that with your preamble.

You became a professional at these two languages without living in countries where they were spoken? Because everyone can learn a language or two on their own fairly well, especially since COVID. However professional proficiency at speaking, reading and writing, as well as language affectations are best learned in country. That's the p in professional.

UK is currently facing serious economic crisis and some other few crises too but why do Nigerians keep flocking UK .. There are other by far better countries in Europe that offers everything way better than UK..

You will be surprised to see the population of Nigerians in London..you will think you are in Lagos ..Nigerians just scatter for London..

Try Germany, Netherlands. Denmark, Norway Even France ..this countries ain’t bad either
UK is another Nigeria without APC, PDP, ipob, Boko Haram, herdsman, SARS and poverty

This is why lots of Nigerian immigrants go through hell to be in over-saturated places like the UK and the US. The world is huge, you cant limit yourself to anglophone countries because you don't want to learn a new language.

And if you actually want to live a rich life, learning a new language is one of them. Language is the vehicle in which cultures relate to the outside world, you miss out big time if you speak just one, or even a few.

You are right. I just wish there was a quick formula to learning new languages.

Do u speak any foreign language?

Hmmm glad to see this topic. Who can tell me the real picture of life in the uk. My wife just got a job there an emergency technician. Annual salary is £27k. Am a website designer self employed. What are the chances we might make a better living over there in uk. and what are the chances we might not. We will be having a baby soon just to let you know.

I would appreciate an experienced mind to contribute. Thanks

The job is a very good pay, and if you move together with you and her working, you guys will be very comfortable.
But a few factors may also decide how comfortable you guys are like is the job in London (as London is more expensive than other parts of the UK).
Also childcare, because the child must always be monitored, if she has to work, you have to be available to take care of the child.

Immersion definitely helps. But also surrounding yourself with the language like movies, music, books

I'm also interested in learning French, I don't live in France either but I heard its better to attend classrooms because you'll pick up pronunciation better than a robotic voice app

Attention
This comment is not meant to derail this thread.
Please if any of NL knows who bears Aremu Tunde Raheem, his Belgian international passport was mistakenly sent to a colleague of mine in Osun State from a source and we have been making all efforts to trace him since November 2022.

Likewise, if we have someone who is with a Bahamas passport, bearing Oluwafemi.T. A., kindly hit me up here so that I can collect the passport from you and also link you to the source where yours could be, if you are not Tunde.

Thanks a lot. I am using this medium as a last resort since all efforts to trace Tunde and someone with the Bahamas passport prove abortive.

Cus we are back to the days of slavery, this time in a deliberate way. UK economy is much dependent on black manpower not even now that they're out of EU so they'll have to get it with any means possible. Foolish Nigerians are rushing over there with the "better life" mantra. This is what you get when ur history is deprived from you, you'll have a generation that doesn't know who they are, where they are coming from also no idea of where they are going.. It's a shame!!
Nigerians are for sale on the global labour market.
Are you a commodity to be bought?
Abeg abeg spare us this story
Since the masses have decided to be stupid and send Nigeria to the abyss...

The professionals will leave the country for them to spoil.
It's not slavery
It's using your common sense
