The idea of seeing people of the same gender kissing disgusts me, apart from that the food there is terrible

Some Nigerians are very superstitious when it comes to Japa affairs. Some are afraid of being in an environment whose language they don’t understand while some are scared of the cost of living and some are uncomfortable about their safety in their new location.

Let’s talk, what scares you the most about relocating abroad?

9 years ago, leaving my wife and boy, my job, my house was daunting - 6 months later, no job still, paying rent through Nigeria (receiving money from home). It was difficult, food preference, weather, communication, no family, no friends...I thought of going back - Then i got a job, it could only service my rent (shared apartments with4-5 others, food, transport, and money for family upkeep. For the next 5 years it was the same condition, no savings. Things started looking up and good9in the 6th year then was without job during the recession of 2017/18..for 1 year. Things got back to better in 2019, i could save, could start planning life. Today, i bless God for His favour, mercy and grace (I can afford to pay extra house sef - Been independently living all by myself in about 3+ years now, can buy whatever i feel like - Not where i should be, but my growth has been steady and consistent, reached Manager level at work, but pay i negotiated is far lower than what my mates get, plus you are black so). I am better than I was. The journey was not easy, many could not deal with it, many relocated, many dipped their hands in dirty shit and are in jail.
What i did was be more devoted to God, intentional about worshipping God privately, and following His commandments....And my story was turned. This is what worked for me. (besides, I am a sustainability specialist.)

MrPRevailer:
• W.H.O mandates e.g get the Toxic spike protein covid Vaccines or lose your job etc.

Climate Change policies e.g Netherlands have seized farmlands of 3000 farmers and euthanized (killed) majority of cows because cows are causing climate change.

• Countries implementing the Social Credit System and those looking to do so like China, Canada, New Zealand etc.

• Engineered scarcity of fuel, famine and cost of living.

Mostly all countries that are compliant to W.E.F's goals and mandates

killing innocent cows because of climate change? How wonderful!

1. Inability to pay up the balance of the tuition cos I'll have to spend any money I make on surviving at least till I have a proper job(not menial)

2. Risk of a change of Law for immigrants or not even finding the kind of job that will get me a work visa to stay after i'm done with the school.

3. The weather- especially for Canada.
Most jobs are available in extreme cold weather but Nigerians are the least qualified to do those jobs because they are still adapting to the extreme winter.
Even the whites that are born there are stay indoors and use fire places and still use heaters.

4. Pressure of expectation from those that contributed for your initial installment of tuition and those that know you have 'japad'.

5. Racism that gets violent for USA.
Britons that are racists hardly result to violence, they just insult you.
But you see those Americans, especially their police, you can just be driving on the road and that is it... e.g Queen and Slim, The Hate U Give (THUG)

6. Gun violence , especially in America.
Any slowpoke can own a gun.
If the person is white they will likely just put him in a psych ward; meanwhile 100 people have died because he walked into a mall they were in.

These points have come up a fair bit in some of those 'japa' threads. So I guess some people are scared of the following:

- Racism

- Starting a menial job from scratch when they have top qualifications

- Losing their identity

- Not being able to get away with delinquency since you are not above the law, no matter how rich you are

- Not being able to get away with matrimonial misconduct against your wife

- Lack of cheap labour

- Being lonely (Nigeria is a communal society, some of these places are more individualistic)

- Not as easy to meet women/men

- Investment in the japa with no worthwhile returns
GOOD Points you have here!

Those saying racism should just stop. You'd likely experience little to no racism in the US. The tribalism in naija is even way more. FYI, I live in US and that's my experience so far.

Starting over. I hate moving. If I eventually leave this country it is final. Not even my dead body will return. Moving even within Nigerian states is hard. But 6 months after the next election that might change.

This is one of the major challenges they face. I met a guy in Chicago in 2018. He moved in from Europe. Last year, his dad died, the man who spent his hard-earned money on his education, including his master's degree in Europe. He only cried his heart out but couldn't come home cos he had no papers yet. I advised him to return to Europe since he had their papers and work or he applied for work in USA and processed his papers from EU and emigrate legit. He didn't listen, till his US visa expired in husbands. He had already completed his programme before he left for USA from Europe. He's been visiting USA from Europe as a student all along.

Even some can't afford to visit yearly, regardless of their status over there. Once they look at that money, they change their mind. They'd prefer sending that money instead meanwhile, money can't buy relationship and family. Seeing your parents and relations around you alone is more healing than any medication.

Here despite the economic situation, people would dash those in need here money freely , despite not earning so much but ask them in the Diaspora to do same, they could block your lines forever. I understand it's not that easy over there. I pray we get leadership right this year so our economy and country can fare better and people can come home and invest. I crave family so much. I can't afford to spend a quarter without seeing my lovely parents and siblings. I like being with people around me.
Over there , everyone is afraid of neighbours. Here you can barge into your neighbour's house and ask if they have chilled water inside their fridge or anything to munch, out of love. You can't do that over there. They'd call police at the slightest suspicion. You could be living with the neighbour next door for months and yet, you're not seeing each other and that's why people commit suicide more easily there. Nobody to share thoughts with and by the time they add one plus one, they've ended it before you know it.

For me, I like putting my money down for wherever I like without anyone coming to me and be asking me to pay for one gbese. If I want to build house, I build and move on, same if I want to buy car. Mortgage and stuffs aren't my style. I be African man, original.
Thank you Big brother for this write up.
How can this write up get to people?
I have friends in USA,LONDON,SCOTLAND,SAUDI ARABIA,CHINA, Those in US have not come back for over 15years,Pennsylvania, Chicago,Texas,California, these families cannot come home, they keep sending #2,3,10k to family members that is not up to what people spend here all round. Burial, weddings, health support they will not contribute but by December they will send 2,3,6k to families to celebrate. So my question is if what you are doing abroad is not working, come home. African culture is built on families. QED. We fight to survive but still stay with each other.
