You Can’t Be Stepping Stone For Igbo Presidency, LP Tells Atiku by Ofunaofu: 9:18pm On Dec 30, 2022
Labour Party (LP) has lashed out at the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, over his comments at a rally in Anambra State. The former vice president while in Awka, had pleaded with Igbo to vote for him as he was the stepping stone for the realisation of their presidency in 2027.

In a statement, yesterday, LP’s National Vice Chairman (South East), Chief Innocent Okeke, described Atiku’s statement as insensitive, adding that it was an insult for him to ask the Igbo to vote for the continuation of the northern-Fulani-Muslim-ticket when the South East was yet to taste the presidency.

Okeke said Atiku was employing old and outdated political tricks that were bound to fail as the Igbo were awake and tired of playing second fiddle in a country where they were a major stakeholder.

He said: “With a northern Buhari completing eight years in Aso Rock next year, had Atiku any modicum of integrity, he wouldn’t have contested for the president let alone asking votes from the South and the Igbo particularly. If Atiku is not up to spite Ndigbo as he usually does, if he believes he is the stepping stone for Ndigbo to take their rightful place, why is he still in this presidential race? He claims to be a unifier, whereas he defiles equity which is the most potent unifying factor in Nigeria.

“Funnily enough, Atiku is among those that designed the agreement of rotation in 1999, and has witnessed it go round and now the indisputable right of Ndigbo, why does he want to change the goalpost in the middle of a match? This is unacceptable.

“One would recall that in respect to the principle of rotation and zoning arrangement which have been instituted, no southerner and no Igbo man opposed Atiku and Buhari both of whom are from the North. It was a battle between a Northerner and another as the South patriotically watched from the sideline. Now it is the turn of the south and the Southeast precisely, why is Atiku contesting and at the same time coming to the East with intention to insult and mock them?”

Okeke said the Igbo want to be president because they want to fix a Nigeria that had been damaged over the years. “They have presented one of their best whose positive record as a governor is overwhelming. As we look forward to a new Nigeria emerging from reality and faith, no one should take these elements that have been architects of Nigeria’s problems seriously. You cannot go to Kaduna and reveal that an average northerner will not vote a president from South, and repeat that average northerner will not like to vote Igbo or Yoruba, only to come to Awka and say you are a stepping stone.

“Who do you want to deceive? Atiku should be advised to withdraw from the presidential race, work on himself and purge away the old conspiracies that he and his cohorts have been using to teach their younger ones hate and disunity. This is the only practical way to be a unifier,” he said.

What an insult, for Atiku to say he is the only way igbos can get presidency is so repulsive. Imagine the conconbility !

Anyway, nobody is voting for Atiku in 2023, Atiku belongs to the old crop of destiny destroyers who cannot be voted by Nigerians because of their sordid pasts.

Goodbye Atiku.

Anytime we call Labour party; Igbo's political party. These people come at us with so many tag name like tribalistic or a bigot. But times and times again, the Labour party keeps on acting like a custodian of igbo's political right.

Always carrying igbo matter on their head like afro. You dare not even make a statement concerning Igbos. Different official Labour party statements will be flying around here and there. Knifes and shields, rain and storm .

The same Labour party criticising Tinubu for using the word ' Emi lokan' will still be the one telling us about how it is the Igbos turn to rule Nigeria; in Yoruba which roughly still translate to "Emi Lokan" .

These things makes a political neutral person just keep wondering.

Good one’
but let them also realize that the actualization of Obi’s presidency is not an Igbo’s agenda.
Infact, the igbo elites has failed their kinsman’

Our vote for Obi is not for the interest of the igbo but for a better Nigeria, i hope they won’t turn this to tribal game, else the North has better chances and Numbers.

Infact, as it stands, the igbo’s are their own problem, imagine the likes of Soludo, Nnamani and Arthur Eze spilling trash

Obi - Datti for President

Mimiko contested and won under Labour Party it was not a Yoruba party, Peter Obi now joined Labour party it turned to Igbo party, Northern governors support Atiku it is not northern agenda, Yoruba governors support Tinubu it is not Yoruba Agenda, Igbo governors are not supporting Peter Obi but it is called Igbo agenda, then you still come out and insult Igbos when it suits you that IGBOS are not united and don't support their own, they are not ready for presidency.

Nothing Igbo will do that will ever be good to you Tinubu supporters because you guys are like the devil that can never appreciate anything good, so we are not bothered again, but we will not relent to change this country for good since your master Tinubu has damaged it with Buhari

When I saw this thread, I remembered the advice my grandfather gave me at my Uncle's wedding while we were sitting close to each other next to the Music Band. The music was so loud I couldn't hear what he said.

Concurred. I have always said that it baffles me why people struggle so hard to sell a Northern candidate to the citizenry. It is unfair, inordinate, skewed and a heavy aberration that A FULANI MAN will become president after the expiration of the 8-YEAR TERM of another Fulani man. This is the height of insensitivity and aloofness.
This contest is between Tinubu, Obi, Sowore, the SDP man, Abiola etc.
Why should people take others for granted especially having been offered a pot of porridge?
Any Southerner supporting this aberration will not go unpunished by the God of equity. Southerners should get sense for once!!!
May it not happen that a Northerner becomes president after another Northerner-led tenure.
