This is a good one. I live in the heart of Uyo three years. Where I reside has steady light since we are on a prepaid network. I use broadband internet as there are companies that render wifi to home services here.
I will say life here is more affordable than Lagos and since you say you work online, you would not have to mind that good office jobs are scarce here.
I am planning on relocating from here abroad though. My major draw back is selling off all my many properties. If you choose Uyo and do not have properties, I wouldn't mind doing a rent and property transfer.
By the way, I am inspired by your post. I am in my early thirties and I sometimes get depressed about where I am at right now. Somehow, knowing that someone older than me is optimistic about life in general gives hope.

I'm in Uyo..

I'm in for the rent and property transfer

It good you want to settle down, but don't be in a hurry to marry, even though you are already 40. Calm down and take your time. There are many good and wonderful girls around. But you see "virgins and semi educated girls", I no support that one.

Marry quality and character, virgin or not; educated or semi educated.

Na virgin with character i go marry las las bros.

Hi

I want to leave Lagos in the new year. I'm tired of the stress, high cost of everything and chaos.
The problem is I can't really make up my mind on where to go, what city is best for me and my business, my life and needs, therefore i opened this thread to seek advice from people who live or have been to these areas i have in mind to relocate to.

My opinions are...

1. Enugu
2. Uyo *(Akwa Ibom)
3. Calabar (Cross Rivers)
4. Port Harcourt

I'm an Igbo guy from Imo state. I work online so can move anywhere as long as i see good light and fast internet.
And something else... I'm kind of a late bloomer in life. Things no enter for me early so I'm still single at 40. But I earn well now, thanks to God, and so I'm seriously searching for a nice lady to settle down with. A city with lots of marriageable single girls around (even semi-educated one who are generally more humble) is high on my priority list.

The city I have in mind as the best fit is Enugu but due to insecurity in the SE I'm open to other opinions.

Please advice me based on your experence.

I've lived in Lagos. I can tell you that there's no serious insecurity beyond what obtains other places in the East.
For marriage, pray to God for guidance. If you're not a Christian, marry any nice fellow that ticks your boxes.

Very soon Lagos will become empty as it is right now.

Take a look around Lagos and see how businesses is at standstill, just because a particular tribe traveled for Christmas celebration.

The way they portray lagos, it may not be good to some people's mental health
Who are the they?

I think the problem has do with the mentality of the people living in Lagos, the ugliness and at the same time the beauty in chaos. Everything just happening, steam rolling with no one really alive.

It takes more a cat with 10 lives to stay in Lagos, everybody is wounded or probably carrying out their wounds about looking for whom to strike with more wounds...

Go to Enugu. Look for an apartment in the Independence Layout area of Enugu and you will have a decent and serene environment.

About insecurity, the city is relatively safe. Just don’t keep late nights until you understand things better.

About a girl to marry, make sure you don’t choose a girl from Instagram, dating apps or or clubs. Well, at your age, I’m sure you know where to find a decent girl.

many places in PH enjoy 18-24hours light. NTA, Old GRA, Trans amadi, Today fm area, Jephthah, woji. Just keep your cash for units as most of these places use prepaid meters.

please remove calabar on that list except u are coming here to spend ur money. This state is as dead as ice wen it comes to money making. U will be so carried away with their girls. So remove calabar out of it. Uyo and pH is better

Someone says he is making money from his online work and you are asking him to stay away from Calabar because it "is as dead as ice wen it comes to money making". He doesn't need Calabar money.

Go to beer parlors in Lagos, them full there. Village, them no fit go.

The better igbos rise up together and crush these useless animals destroying Igboland, the better.

Many people shouting "come to Jos", "come to PH", "come to Calabar" don't understand what it means to work online. Do any of those places have fibre optic internet? With dedicated speeds of 10mbps symmetric?

I don't see why anyone working online in Lagos will be bothered by the so-called stress.

I will suggest Portharcourt. Its almost like Lagos, it has vibes...

Naahhh, Port Harcourt is already taking the Lagos shape, so it won't be good he moves from Lagos to another Lagos.

Also Port Harcourt is already congested and does not need more people moving in that have no plan to invest in it. What Ph needs now are investors, not people. He should go to the calmer places since he does not want to clearly state what he's into.

When it comes to internet every state in Nigeria is about the same, especially if you are in a big city.
