The Wall Street Journal reports: Iran gave the final approval to the war waged by Hamas and Jihad last Monday in Beirut

More from the report: Iranian security officials helped plan Hamas's surprise attack on Israel on Saturday and gave the green light for the attack at a meeting in Beirut last Monday, according to senior Hamas and Hezbollah officials.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps officers have been working with Hamas since August to plan the air, land and sea invasion.

The details of the operation were refined during several meetings in Beirut, in which Revolutionary Guard officers and representatives of four militant groups supported by Iran, including Hamas, and Hezbollah participated.

Status update:
1. Israeli death toll is over 700 and rising; updated estimate: 150-200 people abducted into Gaza, Egypt trying to secure release of children and elderly captives.
2. Fighting continues in southern Israel as forces hunt for remaining terrorists in Israeli territory. At least 40 police officers killed in war so far.
3. US sending emergency military aid to Israel, including munitions, within days. Efforts underway to form emergency government of all major Israeli political parties.

Turkey's military conducted air strikes in northern Syria on Sunday night and destroyed six Kurdish militant targets, the Turkish Defence Ministry said, adding many militants had been "neutralised" in the attack.

In a statement, the ministry said the targets hit included an oil facility used by militants, as well shelters and storage facilities where militants were believed to be. It did not say in which regions of northern Syria the air strikes had taken place.
