I like to talk about self-publishing books on Amazon because it is one business model that I have enjoyed a tremendous amount of success with within a short time of venturing into it and I also like sharing my knowledge so that others can learn, implement, rinse and repeat what works.

There is a major issue that I'm seeing with a lot of people who are into Amazon kindle direct publishing and the problem is that some don't take their KDP business seriously enough.

They don't treat it like it's a business, rather, they treat it like it's something they're just going to make money off of, sometimes with a nonchalant mindset that makes them very unworthy of venturing into a business of this magnitude. This is a multi-billion-dollar business and you got to put in some work, take it seriously and treat it like any other business that you'd be starting.

My second observation is that some people are publishing lots of shi.tty books (excuse my choice of the word) out there, by using ghostwriters that are nothing but mediocre. When it comes to publishing books, if you don't have high-quality books written by a high-quality writer, you may make a few sales here and there in the beginning but once people start to read your book and start to leave reviews, you're going to get a bunch of bad reviews, and this is going to kill your book long term.

Hiring a good quality writer and working with them one-on-one, letting them know what you like, and what you don't and continuing to work with them throughout the writing of the book is something that is very crucial.

I found that a lot of people just don't pay attention to the quality of the writer they hire to write their books. If you fail to do proper scrutiny of your would-be ghostwriter and proceed to hire a joker as your ghostwriter, you're going to get bad reviews in the long term and that book is just going to fizzle out.

My third observation is that some Amazon kindle direct publishers have unappealing book titles, horrible book covers and descriptions from hell. High-quality cover design, optimized title and book description are crucial because, in Amazon KDP, people actually judge a book by its cover.

If you have a bad cover, a bad book description with a bad title, it's just not going to leave the right impression on someone and they're probably not going to click your listing on Amazon and you're not going to get the sale that you're looking for.

A high-quality writer, quality title, and quality book description with a high-quality cover make up a solid foundation for your book. If you don't have these things integrated into your book from the beginning, your book will be heading to Amazon KDP graveyard.

I always recommend going for an evergreen topic that's going to sell forever once the book is published on KDP.

Lastly, some people are either deficient in patience or have literarily exhausted all grains of patience in their biological composition. just outrightly lack patience.

I see people launching books and, in a few days, they start getting agitated that their book is not selling and even start contemplating quitting and some completely give up.

If you're going to give up after a few days or the first week after your book was launched because you are not getting the sales you must have wanted, then Amazon KDP is not for you because you have the wrong mindset and not a good fit.

Amazon KDP is a life-changing business, and I can attest to that.

If you must succeed in this business model, you must first treat it with all the seriousness required to run a successful business.

There are lots of unprofitable Amazon KDP self-published authors out there and the reason is simply that they are ill-equipped and lacked the proper training and skill set to thrive. Amazon KDP is an art and when mastered and done rightly, it becomes the digital real estate that consistently generates income for you for so many years down the road.
