Jason2010,

I am writing from the US and it is very very very sad that people like you and your friend always want to make Nigeria out to be the worst place on earth.  He vowed never to return to Nigeria again because of that and you said he is from Chicago.

What a laugh, people ask him what Chicago is known for here in the States besides the whom of the Bulls as well as  Oprah and Obama. How many drive bys take place in Chicago every day, how many innocent Nigerians have been killed in the streets of Chicago in the past couple of years.  How often do fights and gunshots go off in the day and at nights at clubs here.  wether you will have a million police and the club short down how often are these so called shootings and killings solved.

I can go on and on, remember Tupac and Biggie, those cases are still not solved, here in Atlanta, a few club killings are still unsolved.  So could these fools stop with the disrespect already.  I am proud to be a Nigerian no matter what.

While it is unfortunate that these types of things are happening in Nigeria does not any way diminish the fact that it is still a good place.

East or West Home is best.

What part of Atlanta are you? I see a tonne of cases on Atlanta everyday. Very high crime rate. And the crimes are more viscious than that in Nigeria. The only thing is that the police are more equiped and trained than ours in Nigeria.

God blees you. Do you know many Nigerians overseas are the ones spreading lies and rumors against our dear country. Infact I dont have the strength to talk again, but for me Nigeria is the best country on earth irrespective of the light wahala, USA is not safe, London is not safe. We have only one country which is Nigeria. These fools can go to Japan and live forever, WE WILL NEVER MISS THEM, Wise Diaspora Nigerians are returning home to either invest or take up opportunities, the foolish ones say they dont want to come back as if we are begging them, Do you know how many innocent Nigerians that have been killed in UK and USA this year alone?

i m in love with this post. BACK TO TOPIC - i hv lived in festac all my life and i must say its one of the safes place to stay in lag, the club owner must be into bad deals and probably that particular one went sour. Festac i knw accommodates the good, the bad and the ugly. If u no find trouble person no go find ur trouble.
Re: Gun Violence At A Festac Club by Nobody: 6:58am On Sep 04, 2011

my question is, why would somebody drive such a car (X6 2011 BMW) in Festac?

. . . If that club owner was driving a lower level SUV, like the 4runner that I drive, and kept a low profile, maybe his life wouldn’t be at stake.

You're kidding right? You're obviously not familiar with Festac. . .maybe that was your first time there. Otherwise you would know that there are prolly a zillion X6s in that place. . .coupled with countless G-Class, Range Rovers, LR 3s, GL 4matics, etc. Not to mention a handful of Bentleys and at least two RR Phantoms and Mercedes Mclaren. I hang out in Festac Town fairly often and so I am quite familiar with the banality of affluence that characterizes the place. I would have you know that an X6 is not necessarily a stand-out car there. Try Maybach or something. The Igbo boys (and men) in that part of Lagos are simply too prosperous for words to describe. . .and they are never modest in their choice of automobiles.

After reading this post earlier I asked some of my peeps who are regulars at HEAVENS about the incident you reported, and from their account it seems someone (or some people) have scores to settle with the owner of the club - perhaps a 'business' deal gone awry or something like that. It certainly wasn't an ordinary kidnap attempt - less so because he drives an X6 or is rich or flashy. Too many 'chairmen' in Festac don't even drive X6s anymore - they buy it for their wives. If na kidnap, there are a thousand and one richer and flashier guys in Festac for kidnappers to feast on.

@Poster, really nice writeup but shldnt a man drive wat he feels like if he got d money to buy it?
i sense jealousy in ur writeup coz u cant afford his kind of car, and i guess ur SUV is between 1989-1994.

Re: Gun Violence At A Festac Club by enyhss(m): 5:34pm On Sep 04, 2011
Jason2010,

Without mincing words, I agree that the level of kidnapping & other criminal activities in 9ja is worrisome. I hope all concerned ( federal, state & local govts), would find solution to the almost becoming epidemic nature of these vices asap.

Having said that, I think It's very wrong of anyone , including yourself to suggest that driving an expensive or late model vehicles attracts kidnappers or thieves. People have been robbed while driving earlier models vehicles as well. For you to opined that driving a Toyota Fore-runner is a safe-haven is troubling. Someone driving a 1988 Toyota Carina might equally think you are flaunting as well.

Also, you said your friend from Chicago that was with you vowed not to come back to Nigeria again? That is one of those rubbish some folks spew when they are in 9Ja just to be 'stay 'relevant''. If your friend actually lives in Chicago or knows "Chi" darn too well, what happened at the Festac club shouldn't be a reason not to come back to my beloved 9ja.(we see violence in black clubs in chicago frequently) I can only come up with three reasons. Maybe he rarely goes clubbing or never been to one in Chicago, secondly he doesn't have time to watch Local News ( WGN TV, ABC 7 or other local TV) because you hear these kind of things everyday, maybe not actual kidnapping ,but all other vices. Thirdly, he might be one of those folks that comes to my beloved 9JA & starting acting like what happens in Nigeria cannot happen wherever they are coming from. I detest such group of people with passion. Reason being that they are either ignorant or just plain lying.

Most Nigerians in Chicagoland area resides in Cook county. More than 80% lives within the city limits & south suburban Cook County & this is where most of the crimes are being perpetrated. If your friend actually lives in Chicago as he claims, there's a high probability he lives in the afore-mentioned. Therefore, I would expect him to act right. Unless he actually lives in Kankakee or Springfield,Illinois. Or worse still, he felt outta place in 9ja for whatever reason.
Nigeria is my home & love it with passion. Chicago,Illinois's been good to me & is the best city in North America!

Bo$$ you be real chairman oh, when I'm still rocking molues and 'Keke Napepsas' (apologies to M.I). . .and Raji Rasaki is such a nice, cool estate; one of the best in all of Amuwo Odofin axis. But for real the poster sounds quite ignorant to suggest that anyone would single a person out for kidnap simply because he drives an X6 in Festac. I dey fear these my (typically young) obscenely rich Igbo broses for Festac die; and there are just too many of them. I wouldn't be surprised if Festac's GDP equals or surpasses those of some small African countries, lol.
Re: Gun Violence At A Festac Club by harakiri(m): 7:34am On Sep 05, 2011
@pro1, I don't blame the poster for the language he used coz I doubt if he knows festac or its environment very well. As at 2009, a decent plot of land was selling for nothing less than N30million (I don't know the rate now) and he's complaining about an X6 you can buy BRAND NEW from coscharis for less than N16million (tokunbo is much cheaper). The problem with such people is their thinking complex. Instead of being motivated by the success of others, they feel intimidated and thus, they make these sort of careless utterances. In real life, these are the sort of people I strive to avoid coz all they are good in is bringing you down. If you want to rent a flat, they'll suggest you rent a BQ. If you want to drive an e-class, they'll suggest you buy an old corolla. If you want to buy land in magodo, they'll suggest you buy in mowe/ibafo. If you want to travel to bora bora for vacation, they'll suggest obudu cattle ranch. If you want to eat chicken and chips, they'll prefer you drink gari with salt! They are always negative and quick to castigate/demoralize you and yet, they would have done more if they had HALF of what you possess. Oyibo calls them "haters", 9ja calls them "bad belle". Nuff said.

I'm shocked about the crime in L'ville. I thought Gwinnett county po-po don't play. And I also thought it was the southern part of Gwinnett County where all the crime was (where the hispanic and asian gangs are, esp. pleasant hill and norcross). Na wa!

I decided that I wasn't even going to respond to all the childish attacks. But I felt that I should at least appreciate all the folks that saw it necessary to express concern about our safety that night, bless yall soul, yall are highly appreciated. To those that think that I use no brains as I yarn, and that I am comparing a $5,000 4runner to a $90,000, and all the rest of the attackers, I appreciate you guys too. It is just annoying that one cannot express his/her point of view without fellow Nigerians attacking him/her.
