The incident which was reported to have occurred at the earliest hours of New Year morning, left the neighbours and onlookers in shock.

A resident of the area who is also an engineer, Dr. Theophilos Alumona gave his own account of visiting the site on countless occasion to ascertain the developer and the engineer in charge but met only group of workers who were only always busy mixing and building up the collapsed structure.

The Chairman, Hon Engr. Victor MEJU Esq expressed dissatisfaction with the structure and nature of building materials used for the building.

According to him, the building collapse was caused by the low quality and Substandard materials used by the builders.

He promised that the Engineer in charge of the building if any, must be brought to book immediately to face the law for failing to build to standard specification in line with the approved Construction design and National building code thus, causing great damage to the developer and bringing bad image to the state.

The Chairman, who was representated by Engr Chukwujekwu and other Member of the Anambra State COREN Council including Chief Inspector, Hon Engr. Frank Offor also expressed great displeasure over the incident. He said lack of proper structuring planing and implementation is the root cause of the incident and asked Engineers to engage in personal development through attending seminars and workshops aimed at enhancing the knowledge and practical competence of an Engineer.

Reacting to the incident on behalf of the Awka Capital Territory Development Agency, Mr. Ugochuku Nwimo, ACTDA Commander, said that the building has failed the standard of the desired structure. He expressed his anger with the nature of the collapse and stated that the building and the land stand sealed by the State Government.

He advised developers to engage qualified engineers and other structural professionals to erect a good and stable building.
