HISTORY OF TEMIDIRE-EKITI
Temidire Ekiti, formerly called Isia-Ekiti is located between Ayegunle and Ijurin Ekiti within Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
Historically, Temidire people are regarded as offsprings of the sixth (6th) Ajero of Ijero Kingdom. History has it that the then Ajero had problem with bringing up his children.
Consequently, a male child was taken to Isia for spiritual care and protection. The people that accompanied the Prince and those that came to visit him at regular intervals were regarded as “Usia” hence the name Isia.
However, when it became obvious that the place was increasing in population and the place eventually became filled up with people, the word ‘ONIKUN –Sibe’ , was coined and became the derivation of the title of Temidire’s ruler. He settled down there permanently and he became the first King.
Nevertheless, the name of Isia-Ekiti was changed to Temidire-Ekiti in the year 1972 because of Isia’s negative semantic connotation i.e. A follower.
