Is Kylian Mbappe The Heir To Messi’s Throne In Football? by Ashleyokeneye(f): 2:28pm On Jan 09, 2023 |
Kylian Mbappe did something no player has done at the World Cup for 56 years but it wasn't enough. His Paris St-Germain teammate got his fairytale ending in his final World Cup and handed the baton down to the 23-year-old Frenchman, as the heir to football's throne. It's easy to forget how young Kylian Mbappé is. The Frenchman already has a CV many players could only dream of. He has won a World Cup, played in another final, scored 12 goals in only 14 games on football's biggest stage, is the second player ever to score a hat-trick in a men's World Cup final, and is now the sixth-highest scorer in tournament history. At 23 Mbappé also joined Brazil's Vava and Pele, France's Zinedine Zidane, and West Germany's Paul Breitner as the only players to score in multiple World Cup finals. Players can have great campaigns and tournaments, inspiring their teams to silverware and notable accomplishments over several seasons. Mbappe's achievements with Paris Saint-Germain and France are evidence of that. It's the off-the-scale levels of consistency, coupled with the success that has spanned decades, which has set Ronaldo and Messi apart, and emulating that represents Mbappe's greatest challenge. "What we mustn't underestimate with Ronaldo and Messi is their resilience; their consistency; the standards season in, season out; the number of games they have played; their toughness, mentally and physically, to withstand all the kicking they will have taken and the criticism they will have had; the pressure and scrutiny that is on them. "Mbappe has 10 years before he can even think he is Ronaldo or Messi. Even if Mbappe gets to their level for one season, he will never surpass Ronaldo or Messi for at least 12 years, because he's got to do it over that length of time to be in the same conversation as them. Mbappe has got the attributes, he's got the star quality to do a 10-year run of 20, 30 goals a season. That is not even at the level of Ronaldo or Messi. Okenejude: He can never match up to half of Messi personal achievements let alone surpasses it... He might end up not getting one balloon d'or. I know it sounds impossible but it's football anything can happen. I mean who would have thought Neymar won't have one Balloon d'or to his name. Who would have also thought that Benzema and Lewandowski would get the award before Mbappe. For Mbappe to reach Messi personal records and achievements, he ought to have been a quarter way up there by now. But as it stands he has not even started the race yet. That's how y'all kept saying if Hazard should go to Madrid he would rack up all the awards in la liga and win balloon d'or... A lot of things can go wrong in football just as they can go right... You see Messi and Ronaldo, they are a generational phenomenon that don't happen contemporarily. Of course someone will surpass them one day. My point is that person who's going to surpass Messi and Ronaldo just may have not been born yet. 1 Like 1 Share |
