Barack Obama’s political victory in the United States is yet to ease its world-wide wave of influence and acknowledgement. Since his emergence as the 44 th President of the United States of America, many political commentators and analysts have been talking about the possibility of another political figure similar to that of Obama emerging as the head of government in Europe, precisely in Britain. While this tribe of political observers sustain their belief in this possibility, the rest of the world awaits the manifestation of Obama’s convictions and promises.  



Chuka Umunna a mixed of Nigerian, Irish and English descent has been selected to vie for a Labour Party’s parliamentary seat at the next general elections. A 30-year old lawyer, Chuka has been an object of comparison with America’s Barack Obama within the UK’s media and political circles. The New Statesman; Britain's award-winning current affairs magazine, in 2005, profiled Barack Obama in its list of ‘10 People Who Could Change the World'. The same publication recently featured Chuka Umunna alongside other 9 people from different countries in its 2009 edition of the list.



CheckOut had the privilege of interviewing this intelligent and articulate young politician. It was an exciting experience that exposed his passion for societal progress. In captivating humility, he commented on the growing comparison of his person with that of Barack Obama, saying that the emergence of an Obama figure at the top echelon of British politics is not an impossibility. Chuka Umunna of Nigerian descent has become the first Nigerian to get into British Parliament. Labour’s Chuka Umunna, said he was “humbled” by winning a close fought contest to take the Streatham seat. Mr Umunna, standing for the first time, took the seat with a 3259-vote majority.

Five Nigerians are among the hundreds of contestants that vied for seats in the British parliament as the country went to polls on Thursday.

Umunna hauled a massive 20,037 votes, beating his nearest rival, Lib Dem candidate Chris Nicholson, who received 16,778 votes.

He called the victory “a quite extraordinary night”.

He said: “I was born and bred in this constituency and the fact so many of my neighbours, close friends and people I know in the community and that I am tasked to represent them is something that makes me deeply humbled.

“I know our party will do everything we can for the residents of this fantastic place.”

Mr Umunna has ensured the seat remains in Labour hands after Keith Hill MP stepped down this election after 18 years in the job.

It made news because it showed the numerous poor and weak arse blacks are given some opportunity over there.
But if it happens in Nigeria with a white, it would make news because people would wonder why he went to a poor country to settle.
