If your child cannot pass Grade 2, the solution is not to move them to Grade 3.

Accelerated growth is usually not the answer if your business is not profitable and does not have enough cash to keep running.

It usually makes things worse: more growth means more speed and more attention given to the problems already present in your business.

Moving your child to the next grade won't solve their struggles in school. Just as growing your small business too quickly won't solve underlying profitability and cash flow problems.

Struggling businesses often think that increasing their growth will solve all their problems. They take on more debt and costs, thinking their business will finally be profitable if they can reach the next level.

For instance, opening another store might bring the potential to increase revenue. But it will cost your business in cash, resources, and time that you don’t have in the first place to set up.

It might sound like I’m anti-growth, but that’s far from the truth.

The fact is that you must know your genuine cost drivers and carefully plan for growth.

Growth that is not carefully planned will destroy the very business it seeks to improve.

Don't let the pursuit of growth destroy your business.
