Over 20 Feared Dead In Fresh Jos Violence print Despite beefing up of security in the state, at least 14 persons were feared dead in fresh violence that erupted in different parts of Plateau state today. Today’s killings, P.M.NEWS learnt, brings the number of the dead to 25 between yesterday and today in two separate attacks in Babale and Dabwak villages in Jos North and Jos South local government areas. Eye witnesses told P.M.NEWS that the alleged attackers who raided Babale village Sunday midnight came in three Opel Vectra saloon cars. According to him, the attackers suspected to be Fulani herdsmen shot arbitrarily and killed more than 14 people and burnt houses, they kept communicating using torchlight. One of the survivors, Tabitha Danjuma also confirmed that she heard the assailants communicating with some persons she described as members of Special Military Task Force on Jos crisis. “I think some STF members helped the attackers to carryout the killings”. Tired and sick of incessant violence and killings, Chairman of Jos North local government council Barrister Timothy Buba described today’s attack as horrible and sad. Buba hinted that the state and federal governments will do everything to get to the root of the matter and punish the perpetrators of this heinous act in the area. At Dabwak village near Kuru in Jos South Local Government Area of the state capital, eight people including a 74-year old man, his wife and two grand children were shot dead around 10 p.m. yesterday night by unknown Fulani assailants in the area. Solution to Jos crisis: JUSTICE. Justice to every Berom murderer and every Fulani murderer. Anyone who kills should be killed to serve as example. If not, we're just scratching the surface |

Christian Youths In Jos Kill Several Muslims During Eid Prayers JOS, Nigeria | Mon Aug 29, 2011 7:22pm EDT (Reuters) - Gangs of armed youths in the volatile Nigerian city of Jos attacked Muslims as they gathered to celebrate the last day of Ramadan on Monday, killing a number of them and burning their cars, witnesses and the military said. The city, which lies between the country's mostly Muslim north and the predominantly Christian south, has been a flash point for ethnic and sectarian tensions between the two faiths. If the violence worsens or triggers reprisals, it may prove another major headache for President Goodluck Jonathan, whose security forces are already stretched by daily attacks from an Islamist sect in the northeast, which also claimed Friday's deadly bomb attack on the U.N. offices in Abuja that killed 23. "The Muslim faithful went for their Eid prayers and on completion of the prayers they were trapped by the youths in that area," Brigadier General Hassan Umaru, commander of the military Special Task Force keeping security in Jos, told Reuters by telephone. "They burned some cars, quite a number a of cars. The number of people killed, I can't give that yet. We are still checking with local hospital sources," he added. He said there had been several deaths. Witnesses said Christian youths set up road blocks and attacked Muslims as they gathered in Jos's Gada Biu and Rukuba areas, shooting a number of them dead. A Reuters witness saw several bodies. At least one was charred after being set alight. Umaru said the youths had since been "pacified." Nigeria has a roughly equal Christian-Muslim mix. More than 200 ethnic groups live side by side in the West African country. Though generally peaceful, Nigeria has seen periodic bouts of religious violence, with Jos in particular showing a tendency to flare up. At least 80 people were killed in bombings there last December 24 and clashes between Muslim and Christian youths. God! General Gowon is being haunted by the souls of Ra-ped, totured, murdered and slaughtered innocent women and children of Biafra. The man is in a deep poo. These deaths are not normal. Plateau state needs thorough spiritual cleansing, starting with a proper apology for the death that their son, Gowon, brought upon Biafrans. Karma is indeed a wh-ore. Dayuuum! Exactly like how Biafrans were murdered. After all said and done, this is the "One Nigeria" that he advanced. |
Re: Over 20 Feared Dead In Fresh Jos Violence by Nobody: 12:27am On Sep 06, 2011 |
quid: Justcash: Wow, I am quite amazed by the display of ignorance here. So, here goes: General Gowon maybe from Plateau State but he is not from Jos. Plateau State has approximately 40 different ethnic groups. The people from the Jos area are mostly the Beroms. Gowon is from far away Pankshin/Kanke LGAs and is Ngas by tribe or ethnicity. His area has been relative peaceful ONLY because there are no concentrations of muslims there. So, no Karma does not apply because not many people from ethnicity are being affected. With regards to the Berom of Jos, who are now under attack, let me give some history lesson: During the first coup when the Igbos executed the Norther Premier, one of the highest military ranked people was also executed. His name is James Pam. He was a Berom Christian and had a rank even higher than Gowon and many of the other Northern military leaders then. His death severely discouraged many Beroms from joining the army and soon it was the Tarok people from far away Langtang who eventually dominated the military. Compared to other ethnicities, the Beroms were not a numerous part of the Nigerian army. In 1960, our entire population was about a 100,000. Now our population is about half a million. When you look at this population in the context of Nigeria we are just a drop in the bucket. The reason Jos is being attacked now is because of people who had wanted to Islamize Jos a long time ago and felt the Beroms had always been an impediment to their ambitious, since they are Christians and have historically resisted any feudal nonsense. So, think again, how does your karma play out here? |

Justcash: And please DO REMEMBER THIS. According to historical records and even this link: http://www.kwenu.com/publications/siollun/1966_coup2.htm It was the same Berom Lt. Col. James Pam who may have saved Ironsi's life from Nzeogwu. Here is a quote: "Depending on whose story one believes, Ironsi was either (i) in on the plot and an ally of the Majors (ii) was on the Majors hit list but managed to escape due to being tipped off by Igbo participants within the coup circle. The truth may lie within Nzeogwu’s famous “Africa and the World” interview with Dennis Ejindu. Nzeogwu’s comments in that interview are instructive. Nzeogwu said of the coup plot: "We got some but not all. GENERAL IRONSI WAS TO HAVE BEEN SHOT. But we were not ruthless enough. As a result he and the other compromisers were able to supplant us" (Daily Telegraph, 22nd January 1966). If Ironsi was part of the coup plot, why would the Majors plan to kill him? Ironsi’s survival in January owed more to good fortune than to him being privy to the coup plot (as well as the Majors tactical mistake in arresting or killing other senior officers before they got hold of Ironsi). As the GOC, he was tipped off that in the early stages of the coup, and was informed something that unusual was occurring via a telephone call from Lt-Col James Pam. " So please, before making sweeping comments about issues, try to do some digging first. Thanks. |

Jos crises should not be happening if things are fairly done in Nigeria. Former NSA Mukhtar revealed how troubled he was about Gov. Jang's stand on the issue. It became clear that there are strong forces, even at the federal level who were behind the Fulani settlers of the area. It also explains why nobody has ever been successfully prosecuted and punished for these crimes. Until the Nigerian constitution is amended to allow settlers attain the rights of indigenes, Fulani and Hausas should obey the rules, customs, and traditions of their hosts, just like the Igbos living in Kano are made of obey and follow all sorts of Hausa rules. |

@Joskid; This is not about Jos. This is about Plateau state. That state was once the pride of the Northern region and Nigeria. Now, it is a war zone. Of what use is it that Ironsi's life was saved by someone from Plateau and later taken in a coup that saw someone from Plateau taking over from him? Moreover, why are you equating the death of helpless women and children in the hands of Nigerian soldiers under the watch of Gowon to the first coup d'tat? I am not talking about the death of Biafran soldiers here, I am talking about the death of innocent souls that knew nothing about the first coup. Going by your logic, one would ask why a coup by a combination of both Easterners, Westerners and mid-westerners brought so much carnage on only Easterners. Well, I am not here to talk about coups and all that. My point is that the harmless women and children that were brutally ra-ped, murdered, and tortured are haunting Plateau state because of the Stoopidity of one of their sons, Gowon, who sat and watched as they were brutalized. The supposed "One Nigeria " by Gowon is paying him now. Look at how families are being killed, both father, mother and children. This is an exact semblance of what happened during the war. Surprisingly, it keeps happening and no one knows who is even carrying out these murders. Some say it is STF soldiers, others say it is Fulani herdsmen, but no one is ever caught. These murders are like deaths being carried out by aggrieved spirits that comes out in the Night to kill innocent people. This is despite the fact that there are soldiers stationed in those areas. Gowon is being haunted, and unfortunately innocent Jos citizens are bearing the brunt. Trust me, Gowon will be having deep regrets for ever keeping Nigeria one. |

@Justcash I suppose I had to bring in that example because I wanted to simply stress the sequence of events that may have ultimately led to the savage pogrom of the civil war. I am not in support of any type of crimes carried out in any war. My father was in Secondary School then and never participated in any war--soon to leave Nigeria for Canada after the war. Most Igbo people who abandoned their properties in Jos during the war came back and got their properties back. And if you read Soyinka's "The Man Died" you will note how he mentions the Hausa Fulani migrant settlers particularly seeking to murder Igbos then. By stressing the issue of Karma and Gowon you seem to infer that Gowon or his ethnic kin are severely affected by the current pogrom. No, they are not. The Berom ethnic group is bearing much of the attacks because someone thinks they don't deserve their God-given land. Before Independence, the Middle Belt movement strongly wanted their own province just the way the Mid-West had. But the British myopically listened in to the agitations of the Hausas who wanted their "One North" policy. We in Plateau are thankful to Western Missionaries because these Hausa Fulanis were even agitating against the work of Missionaries even in Jos and other parts of Plateau State. Today we are proud of our Christian heritage. But the British colonial administration then did much to appease the Hausa feudals in ways that became harmful to native Christians. By refusing to grant a Middle Belt Region before independence, Gowon was unfortunately forced or co-opted to listen to the devilish plans of the Northern Oligarchy who wanted a one north, even if it meant killing innocents. I don't know him personally. But I learned he was called "Gentle Jack" for a reason: He had a more softer and principled approach to things. I learned that when Biafra's food supplies were dwindling, he allowed additional supplies to be sent there. I would have to get sources for this. I don't think someone who wanted to send food supplies to people trapped and starving would directly order soldiers to massacre them. This act must have come from gung-ho subordinates. It was unfortunate he had the likes of M.D. Yusuf and others from the core North who really hated Igbos and carried out the massacres. An Igbo friend of mine told me that when Gowon visited Enugu he did apologize. And recall that because Gowon was a Christian, he was never trusted by the so-called Northern Oligarchy. This was why the 1976 coup happened. And this was why Dimka (a man from Gowon's tribe) and other high profile Plateau State military people like Joseph Gomwalk were executed. And this why the people in Plateau massively supported Nnamdi Azikiwe's party NPP during the Shagari regime. But just to also let you know, Gideon Orkar who was also educated in Plateau had wanted to excise certain parts of Nigeria, perhaps because he also knew about the types of problems that were happening and are still happening? Am I saying that Gowon was all good? No. He may have even be a pawn or a tool. I am in no way defending him. Just to say that it is unfair to say that the crisis in Plateau is all a result of some karma that me, my dad and grandad knew nothing about. Look at things globally for once: why is Islam troubling the shores of America way out to China? |

And your goal, mr Berom tribesman is to blame it all on Islam? Please give u a fresh perspective! Yeah rite, the northern Muslims did not support Gowon and I forgot he spent just nine months as the president, people like you are the reason why Jos keeps burning. The truth is you want the so called " non indigenes" out. And for those who support thiS notion, after Jos, which other places should send settlers packing? Just be careful what you wish for! |

@ Justcash and alex101 Brothers Brothers Brothers !!!!!!! Can we leave this biafra thing in the past and move forward. What has Biafra or Gowon got to do with this. eh 20 people die and you people are talking of what happened in the 1960's WE ARE IN 2011 AND GOING TO 2012 IN FEW MONTHS TIME stop all this blame mentality if it is not middlebelt today it is yoruba, if not hausa/fulani, if not ijaw, if not edo etc WE NIGERIANS ARE TIRED OF HEARING BIAFRA RINGING IN OUR HEARS EACH TIME WE HAVE A MISUNDERSTANDING!!!!! We are one NATION and we should act like one. In those 20, hausa, Muslims, Chiristians, Berom, yoruba, igbo, etc might all have been part of the people that die. so why bring biafra again Gowon has apoligised Wole soyinka has apoligised Abacha showed SE love babangida did the same RIbadu, fashola, lamido have showed they loves igbos and are part of the country. Infact the next president might be an igbo man Evne ojukwu contested and people voted so what is this rubbish of baifra we keep hearing each time a distressing topic is up IT IS VERY UPSETTING |
Re: Over 20 Feared Dead In Fresh Jos Violence by Nobody: 2:46am On Sep 06, 2011 |
ayinba1: Hello, I think you misunderstood me here. There are many Southerners, including Igbos, Yorubas, Ijaws, Itsekiris and the whole lot living in Jos today. These get along with the indigenous people. The core problem comes from the Hausa Fulani settlers who have sought to replicate their feudal nonsense here even to the extent of using Federal might, resources, connections and army to achieve that purpose. If some other people did that in your home town or village how would you take it? |
Re: Over 20 Feared Dead In Fresh Jos Violence by aljharem3: 2:57am On Sep 06, 2011 |
joskid: guy guy hausa/fulani are not settlers in jos. they are indigenous in jos and indeed Plateau state hausa/fulani/kanuri land are even as far as abuja, niger, kwara, kogi, cross river, lagos, osun, edo, beune, ebonyi, parts of anambra , rivers. they might not be much in population in those states but that are indigeneous to those places better be careful and learn ur history well before u comment. |

joskid: That's the point. From Buhari to Mukhtar, to Dambazzua, and other latent criminal Hausa/Fulani elements around the corridors of power who have protected and provided for systemic uprooting of other ethnic groups. @alj harem You can't just forget history when it suits you, you know. The same principle that led to the massacre of Igbos is still at play, because Fulanis swear ownership of Jos and even Makurdi, maybe Enugu too |
