I had only one open book test in 200L and that was all.
Re: Lady Surprised She’s Allowed To Take ‘expo’ Into The Examination Hall In The UK by Spiritmask: 10:19am On Jan 18, 2023
Open book exam is the hardest form of exam.
In my final year, we did a design course EME512, the exam is all about to design a groundnut oil extracting machine using engineering standard. The only thing u can get from the textbook is the standard key/number for what parts of the design you select and the formula...
All decision to make depends on ur understand of engineering design from your year one.
If u don't know it, you don't know it.
You can't find the answer in any textbook
Re: Lady Surprised She’s Allowed To Take ‘expo’ Into The Examination Hall In The UK by viodemus: 10:19am On Jan 18, 2023
open book test.

When dem give you closed book and you carry expo enter, then holla.

Their higher education don't encourage cramming, they try to teach you to understand.

Open book test requires that you atleast read the book(s), because there is still a time limit.

The objective or multiple choice questions, require that you understand without too much memorization, so you have to not only have read before hand, you also need to read the question, and be able to analyze the question, because the answers are mostly similar or seem similar.

The expo may be useless because the way they set questions requires you to use your brain to think through very well before attempting to write

Do you mean Delta State University, Abraka? I did a pre-degree course there in 2004 before going to Uniben. It's kinda weird to see him on github though, is he also into computer programming as a mathematician?
SouthSouth1914:

Yes! Anyone who went to Delta State University would know Dr. CK Wright. He takes Real Analysis. Once he gives you any tests, you can open your book and do whatever.

Very intelligent and motivational Lecturer in the Department Of Mathematics and Computer Science. If you have 90% in his exams, he give you exactly 90%. Other lecturers became jealous of him!!

That's not true entirely...
The open book test/exam has actually bastardize every sense of hard work from candidates..

Same way NEBOSH (a professional course) has been reduced to a mere high school exam..

Everything now seems Fvcked up!
No way the same NEBOSH (professional safety course) has been reduced to a mere high school exam. If true make i dey manage my OSHAcademy certificate then.

She never see real world applied questions.

Like assume youre a consultant managing a project in a country, facing so and so challenges. How will you plan and overcome the challenges to deliver? All you see is data to use and answer.

How you wan take cheat with expo?

Most Pure mathematicians are potential computer programmers. Machine language are 90% mathematics!!

Dr CK Wright taught full timers, not pre degree or weekend etc programs. Maybe the reason you never saw him.

If that is true, then why do they give scholarships to only students with high gpa in Nigeria.?

Those with lower class of grades would have to pay through their nose.

Don't they know that Nigerian education is more of the sharpest memory wins?

This is how modern day exams are set, why because the old method forces students to cram answers, here a student understands that he's not a sole repository of knowledge and can actually search for answers ,research and make better choices. The exams are not straight forward and there's no right or wrong just a way to share your opinion and reasons for your decisions.

Nigerian systems favours the crammers over those who actually seek knowledge , this is why many come out of school and have no idea what to do with themselves.

So very true.

This is common in UK and US universities.
It is not called expo though,
It is called.......

OPEN BOOK TEST.

Who can verify this our ogbonge info?

Any Nigerian in diaspora that has done this in their schools before?

Thanks for confirming this for us Sis.
It's obvious you've done this before.
So we right then.

Like seriously?!
Lol cheesy grin

This makes absolute sense!
One of my lecturers used to give this kind of test for us. He will even print two pages of mathematics formula for us to use.

Upon all that, we would still fail. Why?
He was testing COMPREHENSION rather than what we could memorise
Re: Lady Surprised She’s Allowed To Take ‘expo’ Into The Examination Hall In The UK by Acidosis(m): 11:25am On Jan 18, 2023
The issue here is that you must write in your own words. cheesy

Download verbatim from a book, online, or previously submitted work and fail instantly!

Open book exams and coursework are common at Master's level programmes. You hardly write the traditional exam.

And they tell you they school is not impacting knowledge abi. Over serious people with no knowledge to show for that is what Nigerians like.

VendorGB:
Why dem come call ham exam?
Useless people.
T-Mobile esim is available.
Because their thinking ability is being tested, not cramming ability as been done in your shithole country.

GeneralPula:
They must have seen that the Expo is filled with fantastic trash..
The exam require thinking and understanding that is not contained in the expo.

STEWpid:
Chai..

May be Nigerians have taken bala bulu bulaba to the UK.

The UK educational degradation has just begun.
Actually they are improving it every day. they no longer rely on outdated exam practice of the 1950s which your country is still practicing till date.

OyeofIkoTuN:
Is that why they graduate with first class anyhow there..?

abi na dream I dey dream.?

And they are far more effective in their jobs than yours.

You may be right in your own perception buddy.

OSHA
IOSH
NEBOSH
These safety professional courses will still remain relevant anyways..

But I will prefer itz never an open book thing..

Which can be written by friends, and mercenaries..

You copy dat?

Am sure they know Nigeria is expo infested, no credibility. Just a few Nigerian students honestly take any test. One of the highlight of their educational strategies is to actually teach and if the students understand, they can pass their test.

All that cramming we do in Nigeria is just wasting time, because the Cramer is not really knowledgeable about the subject, which is different from instilling the knowledge and you understanding to the point that it becomes second nature to you. That way, no matter how the question is asked, as long as you comprehend, you will have an opinion. If they want cramming or repetitive situations, they have computers for that.

our nigerian way of cramming is like how we face agriculture, we are still using cutlass and hoe as the main tools, while they are using machinery, which helps them beat hunger in their society, which our strategy has not done. if you add their food storage, and fertilizer, it is no secret why they can play with food, which to many Nigerians is a big deal.

Most times the questions are applied questions so your expo might not really be helpful.
Re: Lady Surprised She’s Allowed To Take ‘expo’ Into The Examination Hall In The UK by aspabay(m): 1:56pm On Jan 18, 2023
It is called an open book exam. Common practice back then in Ife. But that no mean say you go still pass, cause they questions are not going to be lifted directly from the "expo".
