Few days ago, president Buhari skillfully injected himself into the political campaign in favor of a fellow northern tribal jingoist, Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso. In a deliberate political interview organized to energize and redirect his base, Buhari reminded his audience in details that it was Alhaji Kwankwaso that saved his life when he was nearly murdered at Kaduna few years ago.

According to Buhari, Alhaji Kwankwaso provided him with the bullet proof SUVs that shielded him from the bomb blasts that were targeted at his convoy and led to the killing of most of his security aids around Kaduna few months before the 2015 elections. He recalled that Kwankwaso warned him that because of the nature of the job he was going for, many desperate characters would be willing to go after his life.

This "revelation" by an ever plotting Buhari was timely planned to coincide with an electioneering period in which Alhaji Kwankwaso seem to be struggling in different exit polls. For years, the narrative has been that it was The DSS under the Jonathans government, that provided Buhari with such life saving cars. But coming out so openly to drop such a strident remark, Buhari was obviously trying to nudge his base towards certain "ends". Things become even more glaring when you note the striking similarities in the politics of the two northern political characters here..

Let us start with the building of infastructure in Niger Republic, their maternal home...
People do not seem to notice or we seem to willfully forget, but Kwankwaso as the governor of Kano State built more infastructure in Niger republic than any other northern politician before the arrival of Buhari as a president! All through his term as the governor of Kano State, Kwankwaso was busy building schools and providing other basic infastructures in the neighboring country without let. He has even built a higher institution in Niger republic.

Secondly, if you think that Buhari is a pro north fanatic, wait till you meet Kwankwaso! No one in the northern political establishment today, is as closed minded as Rabiu Kwankwaso! His endless tribal outbursts and sectional tirades are there for all to see. In one instance during an interview in the past, Kwankwaso wondered aloud as to why there is a clamour for more states in the South of the country. As far as he was concerned, if states were to be created again, it must be in the North West! The same North West with seven states, the highest in the country!

When the nebulous Arewa youth organization made the laughable call for igbos to leave the north, Alhaji Kwankwaso was quick to come behind them with his political support. He was the most prominent northern politician to openly back such tribally charged sectional calls.
At the inception of this electioneering campaigns, Kwankwaso a socalled presidential candidate found himself in murky waters when he openly insisted that the north will never support any candidate from the South East! For him to be that audacious during the campaign, you have to wonder what he will be like as the president! Not even Buhari was that "devilishly brave" during his campaign period.

The list is endless.. Kwankwaso is another Buhari the country can not afford to deal with. This country is already on her knees as a result of political irredentism in high places! The north can not continue to foist very sectionally minded political opportunists on the country as presidents using their cooked electoral numbers. Eight years of Kwankwaso after eight years of Buhari is nothing but an irrevocable death knell on Nigeria..
