Nollywood actor, producer and director Kunle Afolayan hails from Nigeria. He was born in Isara Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria, on May 30, 1974. He is the son of the late, highly celebrated Yoruba movie pioneer Adeyemi Josiah Afolayan popularly known as Ade Love, a filmmaker who died in 2011.

EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION
Afolayan was introduced to the film business at a young age since he was raised in a home where filmmaking was prevalent. He received his education at the University of Lagos, where he majored in Economics before transferring to the Nigerian Law School in Lagos to study law.

He also attended the New York Film Academy to study finance before starting his career as a banker and performing on the side.

Afolayan worked as an actor and producer in Nigeria’s Nollywood film industry before pursuing a career in filmmaking.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, he began his career in the entertainment business as an actor, performing in a number of Nollywood productions.

Before opting to make his directorial debut with the 2005 movie “Irapada,” he also worked as a producer, helping to develop a number of movies.

FAMILY
He is the brother of the popular Nollywood actors Aremu and Gabriel Afolayan. He was married to Tolu Afolayan and had four kids together. In 2019, an accusation of adultery caused their marriage to fall apart.

MOVIE DEBUT
With his 2006 movie “Irapada,” which took home the prize for Best Indigenous Language Film at the African Movie Academy Awards in 2007, Kunle Afolayan made his directorial debut.

He continued to create well-received movies like “The Figurine” (2009), which was nominated for the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Film, “Phone Swap” (2012), which was nominated for the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Film, and “October 1” (2014), which won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Soundtrack and Original Score.

ASSOCIATION WITH FEMI OTEDOLA
Not much is known of Kunle Afolayan’s association with billionaire oil mogul, Femi Otedola. However, earlier in March 2019, he revealed he had a nice time out with the businessman discussing the future of African cinema.
