Students of the University of Benin staged a demonstration following the death of the school's director of sports, Perez Boubouwei.



It was gathered that Perez complained of stomach pains on Sunday, January 22, and was taken to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) where he was admitted.


The aggrieved students claim that at the hospital, the doctors insisted a deposit be made before they can commence treatment and when that was done, they allegedly began injecting him without conducting proper tests.

Perez, unfortunately, died on Tuesday morning, January 24 and the students are now accusing the health workers of negligence



They came out in their numbers to express their displeasure over his death.

Same thing happened in FUT Minna some years back , when a student was rushed to the school's hospital only to meet lackadaisical medical workers on duty who were asking for ID cards before treatment. To cut the long story short , the student died and school went on rampage due to the negligence of the staff at the hospital. As it stands, the services at the school's hospital are yet to improve, and each semester, students are charged for hospital levies that will never be used
