A Unionist

•Chairperson, NLC Rivers State Chapter
•Former Chairperson, Health & Environment Workers Union, Rivers State Chapter
•Graduate, Environmental Health (Nigeria); MS-Occupational Health (UK & South Africa)

Born on Sunday, June 30, 1963 in the Capital city of Rivers State, Port Harcourt, Beatrice Itubo is the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate for 2023 governorship election in Rivers State. A proud mum of five amazing treasures, fierce fighter for good cause and far-famed labour leader in Rivers State.

Beatrice attended Amaigbo Primary and Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) Harbour Road where she obtained her FSLC and SSCE respectively. Shortly after she proceeded to College of Health Science & Technology and obtained Higher National Diploma in Environmental Health.

Her desire for the people’s welfare Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) was a driving force that propelled her to go beyond the shores of Nigeria, United Kingdom in Abertay University Dundee to study Workplace Health, Safety and Welfare in 2011. As lover of education, she wasn’t satisfied; few years after she returned from the United Kingdom she boarded the next flight to South Africa to study at Workers College Durban where her thesis work focused on the Comparative Study of Health Services between South Africa and Nigeria. And she returned home to study Trade Union Practice in Changing World at Michael Imoudu Institute for Labour Studies.

Comrade Beatrice Itubo is not just a good follower, she’s also a good leader. Many say she’s a charismatic; empathetic, courageous and dogged, which earned her her current position as Chairperson, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Rivers State Chapter. She’s the former Chairperson, Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, Rivers State Branch, former Treasurer, Nigeria Labour Congress (Rivers State). Pioneer Board Member Primary Healthcare Management Board and a host of many other leadership positions in and outside Rivers State she has occupied.

Clearly, Itubo is a Unionist. Her wealth of experience as reflected in her rich academic background and leadership positions held has prepared her for the race today. To her, action speaks louder than words. This she has demonstrated in many ways, particularly in her fight for workers welfare in Rivers State, which led to face off between herself and the incumbent Governor.

Many attempts were made on her life for demanding for the rights of workers and retirees with the government employing many strategies to stiffle the NLC in the State but she overcame. Rivers State Workers, Retirees and the organized labor unions see her as the Best option for many reasons.

Firstly, she’s a refined politician, new to conventional politics.

Secondly, besides being the only female candidate among many males, she has also been the lone voice crying for workers welfare and their promotion; plus pensioners whose pension and gratuities are yet to be paid since 2015.

Thirdly, Itubo has distinguished herself in many facets of life and in leadership. She has the right dose of revolutionary fervor and radicalism which can be used to displace or overthrow the current system that frowns at youth and woman empowerment, human capital development, and more.

Having tried the male gender since the creation of Rivers State till date, it is time to try the one and only female candidate of the Labour Party vying for the office of the Governor of Rivers State in 2023.

Chief Comrade Beatrice Itubo is the right candidate for the job!

People Calling Me To Step Down For Them As Labour Party Candidate - Beatrice

"All of them that have been there are running, small time they will jump to Labour party. Some of them have even started coming and saying, ‘Madam, abeg step down for me’ and the question is why should I step down?

” If you are just coming, queue behind us. we have ideas, we have what we want to do. We do not want the old system to recycle the same people up and down. New people should come with new ideas so that we can move this country forward.”
