The major reason why most people are opting for starlink internet connection is the claim that it's faster than our other Nigerian network providers. Here's a screenshot of my MTN internet speed test, can your starlink beat it? Nlfpmod, mynd44

Starlink wasn't meant to compete with 5G. By the way, for 5G, your speed is actually very slow. Attached are screenshot of speed gotten on MTN 5G 9 Likes

Starlink will not have the issue of location based data access. Location A browsing in faster speed than location B. This is an issue we have been suffering from our telecommunications companies. People in Lagos, Kano and Abuja are having better reception than other locations. Starlink will be different, everyone will have the same access to the same speed irrespective of location! 16 Likes |

SouthSouth1914:Stop saying what you don't know. The more people subscribe to starlink, the slower the network becomes. It's worse when you personally have three or more people sharing yours with you. Please don't argue with me if you don't have access to it yet, I won't engage mongers of hearsays. |

Sehindemi: You must be ill informed! International data service providers are not like Nigerian counterparts. Even some African data companies are better equipped- Kenya, SA, Egypt etc. Nigeria must have heavily dealt with your brain thinking capacity that you thought you can’t get better services anywhere! Which of the MTN do you use? It's definitely not the same one we Nigerians use. And if it is 5G, you should know that 5G is unreliable and requires you to be in a specific location to work properly. Starlink doesn't have that location requirement and is reliable. And what about the neverending downtime or around 7 - 10 pm when all networks misbehave because lots of people are trying to use it at once? 5 Likes |

loanky:Most people are not opting for Starlink because of the speed But because it is unlimited Person go pay 30k, MTN go give person a mere 200GB for a whole 30k On top Starlink 30k will get you 1TB. 2 Likes |

The issue is not network speed, it's about coverage. I live and work in a community just 12KM away from Port Harcourt. There is 24/7 power supply in this community, and they don't pay for light. Cost of house rent is really affordable, perfect place to free lance. BUT MTN, GLO and 9Mobile network here is 3G and you can't use it for anything serious. If not for Airtel, even though this place is perfect, I won't be here. For ISP who claim to be mobile, they concentrate their best coverage in only the metropolis and leave out a whole lot of people. When they say internet penetration in Nigeria is mere 38%, it's because of this. They go for they money always. There are Local governments, not just communities in Nigeria where you hardly get network. Though Airtel really tried in rural penetration, but you get mostly 3G network. The last time I travelled from PH to Jos, there were areas without network for over 50KM, I mean, the Big 4 were absent. This is why startlink is a game changer, so you can now make whatsapp calls in HD, skype or VoIP calls from even communities with the absense of the big 4. Do you know there are places in Nigeria, students travel over 100 km to do basic exam registration or just check their result. Starlink is mostly for areas like this, a whole community can be connected, you can open a business centre, setup internet telephone, lauch wireless transmission and connect the community to the internet without waiting for the big 4. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Okonandmary: Not true. It has fair usage policy (FUP) that kicks in at 1TB. All unlimited data plans have it. Once it kicks in your speed will be throttled by the ISP. But you can still use the network at very high speed. For starlink, the FUP speed is 1mbps |

ModCaller:please can you post a link showing where spaceX officially stated that starlink users in Nigeria will have a 1tb monthly FUP. I haven't seen any. I am yet to believe starlink that just arrived in Nigeria will get a 1tb FUP immediately when there is no network congestion. It took over a year before USA got 1tb FUP and that's because they started having network congestion due to many starlink users. There will likely be no congestion in Nigeria anytime soon because starlink is not easily affordable here. 1 Like |
