Hundreds of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ughevwughe, Otu-Jeremi and Arhavwarien communities in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, have defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

This was as the candidate for Delta State House of Assembly, Ughelli South Constituency, Engr. Festus Eseoghene Utuama intensified the campaign to communities in the area.

Speaking during the campaign visit to Otor-Edo, Ughevwughe, Iwhrekreka, Iwhretabeta, Edjophe, Iwhrekan, Otu-Jeremi, Arhavwarien, Iwhre-Okpe, Okparabe and Otor-Ewu communities, Utuama urged members of the communities to vote out the APC-led federal government to allow PDP reset Nigeria.

He explained that when the PDP was in power between 1999 to 2015, prices of goods and services were moderate and affordable by all Nigerians,

“But the case today is different as prices of goods and services have gone higher. Nigerians can no longer buy rice, processed cassava, fuel and many other products because of the bad economic policies of the APC-led government.

“The only party that can rejig Nigeria is the PDP. So I urged you all to vote for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for President and Vice President respectively; Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and Sir. Monday Onyeme for Governor and Deputy Governor respectively.

And Chief Ighoyota Amori for Senate, Delta Central District; Hon. Solomon Ahwinahwi for House of Representatives, Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency and I, Engr. Festus Utuama for Delta State House of Assembly, Ughelli South Constituency.

Utuama who spoke on behalf of the candidates promised a total reset of the Nigerian economy for better living conditions.

He promised amongst others, massive infrastructural development, good health care facilities, youth and women empowerment, and progressive bills that will better the lot of the people.

Receiving the decampees, Chairman of the PDP in Ughelli South Local Government Area, Hon. Michael Oshetigho and former Chairman of the party in the local government area, Chief Vincent Oduaran appreciated them for the bold step of defection from the APC to the PDP.

They assured the decampees of equal opportunities with old members of the party. “The PDP umbrella is big enough to accommodate all of us. Let’s work together to kick out the party that has brought so much pain to us”, they added.

One of the decampees who spoke at Otu-Jeremi, Mrs Ovoke Dennis, said the APC brought chains and padlocks to chain Nigerians and not the change they initially promised to bring.

She thanked the leadership and delegates of the PDP who made their brother, Engr. Festus Utuama, candidate of the party for Delta State House of Assembly. “Because of him, we have come to join the PDP and vote for all its candidates”, she added.

Coordinator, PDP Campaign Council, Ughelli South Local Government Area, Hon. Paul Etaga; Monday Emuvakpor Esq., representative of the House of Representatives candidate, Hon. Solomon Ahwinahwi; Olorogun Francis Aguonigho, Mr. Oginibo Michael, Chief Solomon Ala, Chief Gordons Okomite, Hon. Bourne Ohwovoriole, Mr. Christopher Utuama, Hon. Oghenetejiri Ejarogan, Prince Solomon Ugen, Chief Fidelis Tuvatah, Mr. Sylvester Uzoh, and others were among those who went for the campaign visit.
