We never saw this coming. God works in mysterious ways. Buhari is God's answer to Nigerians' prayers for the defeat of the evil party,APC. May God strengthen Buhari's hand as he continually frustrates Tinubu's criminal plans to finish Nigeria kpata kpata. May God give him & Emefiele the wisdom to solve this new naira problem so as to alleviate the suffering of the innocent masses caught in the crossfire. I pray they allow the old notes to be used till 21st Feb after which there'll be no more extension till after the elections. Tinubu can go & deposit his old naira notes @ the CBN before 17 Feb & then use transfer for vote buying. That will make the work easier for EFCC. Tinubu thought he was doing us in 2015, but he didn't know he was doing himself. Now we are now having the last & the best laughter. |

That's just stupid... Basically using a sledgehammer to smash a fly that lands on the penis! Even with unlimited resources and money to rig elections, no individual candidate can pull off such without the cover and enablement of the man with the entire security structure under his thumb! A candidate can have all the bullion vans in his house, but if Mr. President doesn't want a dime of that money getting to voters and thugs, he can do that effortlessly without the need to subject all the masses to this purgatory. The increasingly biting cash scarcity in the country will ensure that monetary incentives to voters would be even more valuable than they would have been in normal times because people are desperate and writhing in unspeakable existential torment.This is the true effect of the naira redesign. It has made the new notes more valuable and cherished by the masses and is back in the hands of those the govt is looking to deny raw cash. It has made the vote buying process sweeter and far more effective for the buyers and seller are more willing to sell. In fact hitherto indifferent folks, are very ready to sell their votes too. It has defeated its intended purpose more than 100%. |

Premium Times reported on Friday that “The Mint has run out of papers to print N500 and 1,000 notes,” and that the CBN has outsourced printing of naira notes to a German firm and De La Rue of the UK but that “they have been placed on a long waiting list so their orders cannot be met now.” So, Nigerians are in for even harder times in the coming days.  |

Eriokanmi: Let me assume without conceding that your assertions are true. This assumption is made in good conscience as I do not have facts to negate or support your claims. But be that as it may, anyone supporting this policy because they think it would hurt is only being stupid and I say this advisedly. First, with this Emefiele's policy what he has done is to magnify the the poverty that has pervaded Nigeria before now. This is so because the ordinary man has been denied purchasing power. Without the purchasing power, you are magnifying whatever monetary inducement any politician will offer the masses. Because the CBN has made the Naira scarce, it has equally made it more valuable. So, in ordinary times where the masses may be induced by say "N5000" hypothetically, the poor man would be induced by say "N2000" because of the scarcity that has shored up the value. Second, like I did explain to someone on another forum; politicians are not limited to using cash inducement alone. They use packed groundnut oil, foodstuffs, and other gift items which they can still use if push comes to shove hence this policy is not likely yo curb vote buying. Third, because the wealth creation ability of a nation and in fact any entity including does not depend on the absolute amount that the entity owns at a point in time but on the velocity of money, described as the rate at which money changes hands. What CBN has done to this economy cannot be reversed in the next 5 years. The fact that Emefiele and Buhari are using this policy to fight perceived political enemies shows their lack of capacities and it explains why the country is the way it is at the moment. If they could not devise better thought plans to curb vote buying in the last 7 years and this is all they could come up with, I just sympathize with Nigerian masses! |
