Ladies: Wont Like Any Other Colour For Your Wedding Dress? just thinking should it always be White wedding? cant ladies choose their favorite color or something? |
Re: Must A Lady's Wedding Dress Be White? by MrsChima1(f): 4:38pm On Sep 10, 2011 |
If it is a traditional wedding then most ladies would choose white if they are a virgin or want to lie being a virgin. If it is an untraditional wedding then most ladies would choose off white, beige, or gold. If it is a themed wedding then whatever colors are for that particular theme would be the color of the dress. |

@ OP. . . you know what I dread the idea of getting married in white or in front of a whole congregation etc . . . I don't want that conventional setting and tedious sequence. The whole idea unsettles me and seems rather unattractive and mundane. I'd be more happy and comfortable in native attire. . . *shrugs shoulders* I believe a lady can choose or have certain things tailored to her liking. |

Re: Must A Lady's Wedding Dress Be White? by N101: 2:40am On Sep 12, 2011 |
iz2much: No you do not have to wear white. It is not compulsory. What white used to represent (the "virginal" bride" is rarely relevant any more. I went to a wedding where the bride wore a velvet red wedding dress. Someone else I know wore purple. I've seen people get married in native attire not in white. Wear whatever your comfortable with. Choose your favourite colour, so long as your wedding dress isn't tacky or garish but compliments you, both in colour and style. |

If she's a virgin then YES it should be white, If she isn't a Virgin then it can be whatever colour she damn well pleases. |
Re: Must A Lady's Wedding Dress Be White? by Jenifa1: 5:19am On Sep 12, 2011 |
ShipIt: What if she's a virgin and doesn't want white? besides most women who get married in white nowadays are NOT virgins. lol |
Re: Must A Lady's Wedding Dress Be White? by itiswell1(m): 7:01am On Sep 12, 2011 |
ShipIt: Abeg where you get your theory from? In those days, they only say if u are pregnant u cant where white. I'm not sure that still stands these days. |
Re: Must A Lady's Wedding Dress Be White? by sayso: 8:15am On Sep 12, 2011 |
it is well: she is right, white signifies purity. |
Re: Must A Lady's Wedding Dress Be White? by walcolm(m): 8:18am On Sep 12, 2011 |
it is well:actually Shpit is correct, the concept of white for the bride is supposed to signify 'purity' aka not yet deflowered, if u have been balled or knocked up, you're encouraged to wear off white these days, since being a virgin is no longer fashionable and virgins dont even exist anymore , you can see many gowns displayed even on this thread are not white, signs of the times |
Re: Must A Lady's Wedding Dress Be White? by mide14(f): 10:04am On Sep 12, 2011 |

Not necessarily! One can wear any colour they are comfortable in. White Wedding gowns by tradition signifies virginity - purity of a maiden, are you?? This is because, in the olden days, ladies kept their virginity until they are married. That meant, leaving their Papa's house, straight into their husband's family. They did not leave home or work like we do today and never had boyfriends. And their mothers were absolutely, proud to show them off as true virgins on their wedding day. But today, all we could see in our Church Isles and Alters are ladies in white who are not virgins - that's hypocrisy. Hey, are you a virgin yourself? I would be shocked, to hear that! However, if you're, that's fantastic - what a lucky man, there aint many around you know? Why? Because, Nigerian men have deflowered them all, yet, they want to marry a virgin girl, in their dreams! For they can't eat their cake and have it, as women would pretend it if they want to. When I got married I wasn't a virgin either. Ashamed?? Why would I when they stole it, abi? Therefore, I was not caught in that white thing but boy, I wore a very rich Ivory colour decorated with matching lace - it was beautiful and still is after all these years. So, if you're considering a wedding, go for ivory or light cream you'd look fantastic in it - it's a sumptous colour than white. |
