Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s Special Assistant on Inter-Faith Affairs, Femi Ibikunle, has said his principal will guarantee security of lives during the February 25 and March 11 elections.

Ibikunle said this at a sensitisation programme organised by the Christian Youths in Politics under the aegis of CYP Connect International, where he represented the governor on Saturday.

Ibikunle said Makinde had promised that no lives would be lost during the elections, as necessary security arrangements had been put in place.

“Two days ago, they held a meeting with the army chiefs, the customs officers, the navy, the NCDC, and the police to discuss the forthcoming elections; so the electorate should not be afraid; they should come out en masse to vote,” lbikunle said.


Speaking on the programme, which attracted youths comprising Christians and Muslims in the state, he urged Nigerian Christian youths to have the right perspective about politics in Nigeria and the right understanding of Nigeria.

“l want to encourage the youths that it’s high time they woke up; they must be serious and be part of the politics of today. I want to encourage the Christian youths to have faith in themselves and God.

“And this creation of awareness by CYP is one of the things God has been using to help the people. I thank God for such initiative and the programme, but we must do more because Christians are not just there yet,” lbikunle added.

The Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Oyo State, Colonel Akinyemiju Joshua, who was represented by his Personal Assistant, Dr Olamide Olanrewaju, was quoted to have said, “You are gradually accepting the general mantra that the youths of today are the leaders of tomorrow. When you come into politics, there is only one goal, and that is to run a government as a leader.”
