.......as strategic sensitisation campaign against Lassa fever takes off.


The Esan West council Boss Hon Friday Amiedamhen Idialu received the commissioner for health on Tuesday 15th Feb 2023 on the strategic sensitisation campaign tour against Lassa fever at the LGA council Hall to get a briefing on the campaign drive the the health department has done to eradicate Lassa fever from the Local Government.

The primary health center coordinator Dr Ehis Emuah and other senior health officers, took turns to give the break down on the giant strides recorded so far within the LGA.

The Lassa fever campaign drive was taking to churches, mosque, market places, motor Parks, communities, etc. A concerted efforts toward curbing Lassa fever in the LGA has been made, there by reducing drastically the number of cases recorded from the previous months.

The commissioner Dr Obehi Aituaje Akoria while speaking, applauded the work done so far in the advocacy and eradication of Lassa fever within the LGA. She made a call to everyone to take this driving spirit to our homes, schools, churches and also call on the politicians and parents to see to the need to educate our people because, it is only those alive that can play politics and also take care of their families.

Also speaking was the WHO Rep who stress the need to intensify every efforts within our capacity to eradicate Lassa fever totally because it is a dreaded disease. He also commended the Esan West LGA team for the results shown so far, he called on them to be instructors to other LGAs, hearing from what they have achieved since the campaign started.

While advocating health safety in the community, the agric department coordinator noted that the campaign was aimed at creating awareness on ways to prevent the fever. He spoke on ways to contract the fever and other related diseases which is through animals and pets, symptoms and prevention. He called on ever the team to give orientation to our uneducated ones More.

The council Boss Hon Friday Amiedamhen Idialu thanked the Health commissioner for taking time to visit the LGA, he also gave a break down on what has been achieved so far since the campaign started. also stating that Esan West LGA which was the flash point of Lassa fever in Edo state,has now ranked amongst the few LGAs that has reduced the number of cases to it's barest minimum, the council Boss also assured the commissioner that his team will totally flush out Lassa fever in the coming months ahead.

Participants were drawn from the host communities in Esan West LGA, all health workers from across the LGC and all SAs across the 10 wards
