Maslow (1943) observed that humanity needs a relationship with supernatural (spiritual need) in his famous work “Hierarchy of Need”. This should be a good justification for evolution of religion on a global scale. However, on a critical and logical reasoning basis one may ask: is religion adequately taking care of this integral need of man?
If we examine religions today it features majorly today, 1.belief systems, 2. Doctrines, 3.practices, 4. laws, 5. Superstitions. Historically, one fact that is indisputable is that man via religion wants to depend on the supernatural for solutions to problems especially the ones that defy human solutions. As a result, humanity is always using religion as a channel to communicate with supernatural and request for the desired solutions to problems. This is why prayers is an integral part of many religions.

At this point, one fact is sacrosanct “ In religion we do more of talking to God than listening to Him.”

If we look at this critically, prayer in many religions violates the principle of communication, which is supposed to be a two-way relationship between the sender and receiver. A line of communication should allow for sending information and receiving of feedback.

Jesus Model
Jesus Christ gave us a perfect model of this phenomenon. When He was teaching his disciples how to pray, He taught them in Mathew 6:10, Luke11:2… to say may “ may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” The logical deduction from this prayer is that the most important aspect of prayer is to receive a feedback from God on what his will concerning any particular situation a.k.a “His divine purpose”
.JESUS demonstrated this in his famous prayer in the garden of Gethsemane by sending a request o Father asking if the cup can pass over Him. He got a feedback immediately that He had to drink it, hence He immediately submitted to God’s will. Matthew 26:39:44

The following facts are noteworthy:

Jesus advocated for Spirituality as opposed to religion. John 4:21-24
Spirituality entails knowing the will of God, doing it or allowing it to be done.
In religion we do more of talking to God and less of hearing from Him. Mathew 6:7, Mathew15:9, Mark7:7
In Spirituality, we do more of listening and striving to hear from God and less of talking to Him

Little wonder, Jesus never instituted any religion.

Just recently, the world is experiencing profound signs of the endtime. Matthew 24:5-7. Pestilence (Covid19), Earthquakes in diverse places (Turkey, Syria, New Zeeland). How many of us from the household of God are conscious of these events or having a beforehand revelation of them? This is because we preoccupy ourselves with loads of demands in our prayers and more than ever careless about what Spirit is saying.
He who hath ears, let him hear what the Spirit is saying. Revelation:2:7, 2:11, 2:17, 2:29, 3:6, 3:13, 3:22
