Business by Zamals(m): 2:24pm On Feb 19, 2023 |
James is an entrepreneur who had been running a bakery business for 3 years without registering it. Jaymilo’s cakes and confectionaries was well known in and outside of town and he had a lot of customers. One day he decided to expand his business, but he did not have the required funds to do so. Fortunately for James, He heard that the federal government was giving out loans and grants to small business owners, so he rushed down to NG CARES office. He was given a form to fill and some necessary requirements to bring. One of the things in the list was CAC CERTICATE AND STATUS REPORT. James did not have these because he had not registered his business, but he was determined to get the grant, so he quickly contacted an agent to help him register his business. However, his agent discovered that someone else had already registered his business name. James was devastated by this news. The dilemma here is that James has been using this name for 3 years, and all his customers know him by that name. He has spent a lot of money in making stickers and labels which contain the name that has been taken. James really loves his business name but to get the loan, he must come up with a new name, register it, change all the banners, stickers and labels with the old name before his application for the loan can be accepted but he also has limited time and money to do so. James' story serves as a cautionary tale, reminding us to always take care of the important details when starting up a business. Don't forget that no matter the kind of business you do, you sure need to register your business. |
