Ogun Woman Reportedly Commits Suicide By Setting Herself Ablaze Over Inability To Repay N70K Loan

A middle-aged woman, known as Mama Dada, reportedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze in her rented apartment located at the Oke-Keesi, Itoko area of Abeokuta, Ogun state, IGBERETV has learnt.

According to report, the incident occured by 2pm on Saturday afternoon, 18th February 2023.

Speaking to newsmen, an eyewitness and a resident of the area, Bolanle, said that the woman killed herself after she was unable to pay back a loan she took from LAPO.

"I was told that she obtained the loan running into N70,000.” she said.

The secretary of the Community Development Association in the area, Ade Babawale, alleged that that the deceased was owing the bank.

"She is owing the ‘Gbomu le lantern’ the sum of N70,000, because she was unable to meet up with the payment she then sent her last born to buy fuel and also use style to discharge the small boy and she locks herself up inside the room and wet everywhere with petrol including herself and set the whole place on fire.” he said.

Her corpse has been deposited at the state General Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta.

70k is not worth her life nah. Even her creditors know how it is in Nigeria presently.
Just five days to Peter Obi's election as president she is commiting suicide. May we never die at the verge of our liberation.

May her soul find rest.

What Nigeria needs is restructuring and decentralisation of power

Mr. Preacher! If she had asked you to give her the money, would you have given her? The truth is that Nigeria is totally messed up at the moment. At this point, I don't even pity Nigerians. We keep electing idiots because they are our tribesmen and expecting them to do some magic.

If Bola Tinubu or Atiku Abubukar wins this Saturday's election, we are definitely going to be reading more suicide news here. It's not a curse; it's a fact because we know what these people stand for. God gave us brains so we don't disturb Him all the time. If we fail to use it, we will bear the brunt. No, God won't do for us what He has given us the power to do for ourselves.

This Saturday, I will vote for Peter Obi and clear my conscience. Some urchins are already making this election an Igbo Vs Yoruba superiority battle, forgetting the big picture - delivering good governance. My vote for Peter Obi will be similar to what Pontus Pilate did (washing his hands off His blood) when the Jews demanded that Jesus be crucified for no apparent reason.

As bad as people demonize LAPO, I know a wan who sent her four children to higher institution through LAPO after her deadbeat husband abandoned the kids and left with another woman.

Did she suffer? Very well. Every week, when it's time to pay back, you'd see her going from shop to shop, house to house looking for money to make up what she has. People would mock her and laugh at her, she would cry always, one day she even fainted.

This woman grew grey hair on her eye lashes because of suffering.

Today, her kids are out of school, doing well and caring for her, all those years of suffering have been wiped away.

As long as there's life, there's hope. Suffering may endure for a long night but joy always comes in the morning.

This type of suicide caused by hardship triggered a bloody revolution known as Arab spring. Nigeria better get it right on Saturday.

Mr mentioner, I would have given her. All I needed was to become aware of her situation in order to appreciate it more. Are you saying she did well to take her life because of 70k? If the country hasn't been fair to you all these while why haven't you taken your own life?Nigeria for me is not the way it is with you. What we want is a better Nigeria for majority of the populace, that doesn't mean everybody is poor. It's too early to start mentioning me stupidly. Kindly mind your own business.
