The Creative Convergence Of Art, Technology, And Ecology: A Meet And Greet by juliambariuno: 10:51am On Feb 21, 2023
This networking event will celebrate our partnership as well as the launch of a new data-art installation called "Tracing The Wild" at the innovative festival Nairobi Design Week, hosted this year at Nairobi's Opportunity Factory.

We highly encourage all guests to also attend activities earlier in the weekend at Nairobi Design Week, this year held at the nearby Opportunity Factory, including a discussion with KWT Director Irene Amoke and SNI CEO Catherine Bischoff, held onsite at the Nairobi Design Week installation on Sunday March 12 at 1:30pm. This talk will touch on the technological experiments underway and reflect on the potential for nature-data as inspiration for innovative ways to raise funds and awareness of wildlife conservation efforts in partnerships with technologists and artists.

A full calendar of the weekend's activities is included below.

CALENDAR

Friday, March 10 - Nairobi Design Week - @Opportunity Factory

5pm-6pm: “Sneak Preview: Tracing The Wild”

Join us for a preview tour of the new digital artwork Tracing The Wild, a collaboration between Nairobi/Lagos-based artist Chuma Anagbado and digital architect Daria Smakhtina along with Kenyan collaborators Mercy Barno (sound installation) and Lyosi Mwedekeli (augmented reality). This physical and digital artwork is a dynamic data art project centering on portraits of three individual lions in the Maasai Mara, arranged as an immersive installation in collaboration with our partners at Nairobi Design Week. Proceeds from sales of these artworks will benefit the conservation work of Kenya Wildlife Trust.

1:30pm-2:30pm: "The Design and Art of Tracing The Wild"

Join a special conversation with innovative digital/physical artist Chuma Anagbadao along with curators Naitiemu Nyanjom and Adrian Jankowiak, KWT ambassador Felixie Kipng'etich, and SNI’s director of creative engagement Seth Bockley.

6:30pm onward: “Happy Art Gathering"

Join us for a drop-in event and mingle with artists and designers working in digital and physical hybrid forms. Enjoy refreshments from the Opportunity Factory café and see where the conversations take you…
