A global non-governmental organization, Peace Ambassadors under the umbrella of Ambassador Cyril Ezewele Abionanojie Foundation, at the weekend embarked on sensitization campaign against violence during the 2023 general elections.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the sensitization campaign, which started on Saturday from Ikotun in Alimosho Local Government area, was billed to cut across other Wards, Local Government areas across the State.


The members marched on the streets and market places with their vehicles, sharing fliers with public address systems on the need for peaceful elections, using the different local languages namely Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo including English to pass the message to the members of the public.


The action of the group, which was founded some years ago, was a proactive measure against any possible electoral crises during the elections in Nigeria and to educate members of public over the need for free and peaceful elections.


The President of Peace Ambassadors, Chief Cyril Ezewele Abionanojie, explained that the group decided to embark on the sensitization despite the anger and frustration over the recent financial crunch to inform and educate members of the public that there was every need for peaceful elections in Lagos State and indeed Nigeria.
He reiterated the importance of peace among the people, which remains the invaluable tool for democracy and governance.


Ambassador Ezewele urged Nigerians to eschew violence and dissociate themselves from politicians who may try to incite people for violence for their own selfish interests, stressing that violence does not pay in the society. He noted that the election will still come and go but the coexistence of people will remain and therefore, election does not worth any form of violence.

The General Secretary of Peace Ambassadors, Comrade Adamu Muhammed, also spoke in similar manner and enjoined Nigerians to eschew all forms of violence, describing the forthcoming Nigerian elections as make or mar. He reminded the people that they should see themselves as brothers and sisters and as such the elections cannot cause violence among them.

The Peace Ambassadors sensitization road show for hours witnessed the presence of the media with the officers of the Nigeria Police from the Area M Command, Idimu and officers of Ikotun Division, who were on ground ensuring security, safety and over all coverage of the programme despite severe cash crunch resulting from the new Naira policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
