The main problem in Nigeria case is that we are owning the debt in foreign currency and not in our own currency. That is a big mistake on our behalf. I wish I can explain the implications of that here.

At that level, printing money is just a figure of speech. US can wipe out its debt with a keyboard. Round-tripping between Treasury Department and Federal Reserves will take care of that. As stated, there is no incentives to do that. President Biden proposed students' loans forgiveness and it was vehemently fought because that will be equivalent to freeing the slaves.

I disagree with this post 100%, rather do debt as a percentage of GDP. China is the world's indebted country in the world. Their debt is close to 280% of GDP. If China 2022 GDP is $18.3 Trillion, it means their debt is almost $51 Trillion (They pay for alot of State owned industry and companies and investments around the world).. China hides its Debt from everyone, when you include corporate debt, elderly care and more, China economy is no so great, and would never surpass the US economy!

US Debt to GDP is about 124%. US 2022 GDP is $25.2 Trillion, while its debt is $31 Trillion (200+ years of yearly debt accumulated). The US can pay its debt easily, by increasing the labor force, exporting more and taxing millionaires, companies and billionaires to reduce annual deficit to turn a surplus.

Debt is good if utilized well. The US economy has alot of good things going for it. Record 10 million business started in 2 years, which could create 20 million additional jobs.... The US Chips and infrastructure investment would grew America past a $30 Trillion economy.

In essence, countries lend money to the US so they can consume more of the origin country's exports. For China specifically, the investment in US federal bonds is also a trade tactic to maintain their trade surplus by keeping their currency artificially low. Trade surpluses in theory are supposed to be self regulating because the more a country exports, the more profit it receives which should reflect a rise in their currency value, thereby making their exports less competitive. What China does with their export revenue is reinvest it into the US to keep their currency low and for it to be circulated back to China again in even more export revenues.

I'm no Greenspan, but with a good dose of common sense, anyone can see that this is clearly not sustainable and creates an unhealthy reliance on China and their unabating channel of loans to sustain the US economy.
