Atletico Madrid scored their third straight victory as they won away at Real Sociedad yesterday and Rasheedat Ajibade was at the centre of that victory.

Atletico piled on the pressure from the blast of the whistle and it paid of after an exchange of passes between Ajibade and Cardona. Cardona ran into the area in the 6th minute and cut the ball back to Ajibade who volleyed it into the goal.

However, Amaiur equalised for Sociedad two minutes later.

There were chances at both ends in the first half, though Atletico had more opportunities, but the score remained 1-1 at the end of the first half.

Atletico once again piled on the pressure at the beginning of the second half and it yielded great reward as Ajibade put them ahead again in the 48th minute.

Ajibade came close to recording a hattrick a minute later, but was prevented by a great save by the Sociedad goalkeeper.

The match finished in a 2-1 victory to Atletico.

Rasheedat Ajibade spoke to the club's media after winning against Real Sociedad, in which she scored both of the team's goals.


The Nigeria international wanted to give value to the three points obtained in Zubieta: "It was a good game, the most important thing was to get the victory."

This is the team's third win in a row, to which Ajibade commented: "It's great to get this three-game winning streak, but we have to aim for more. There are good feelings for the next game, but we have to stay focused, working the aspects that need to be improved."


With her two goals she gave the victory to the team, something with which the red and white striker was very happy: "Thank God personally I am very happy to be able to help the team, but I must say that without the help of my teammates I would not have achieved it, it has been a collective effort. Thank you to the girls for helping each other bring out the best in us."

Lots of Nigeria female players have benefited professionally by playing abroad in some of the best female football leagues but the national female team keep under performing and under achieving. The last tournament they participated in was disappointing.

What could be the cause? They do well in their respective clubs but in the national team, they struggle to string passes together or play with cohesion.
