Hackers adhere to four key protcol concepts:

Maintain your legal status. Before accessing and performing a security assessment, obtain proper authorization.
Establish the scope. Determine the scope of the assessment so that the ethical hacker's work remains legal and within the approved boundaries of the organisation.
Vulnerabilities should be reported. All vulnerabilities discovered during the assessment should be reported to the organisation. Give advice on how to resolve these vulnerabilities.
Maintain data sensitivity. Depending on the sensitivity of the data, ethical hackers may be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement in addition to other terms and conditions imposed by the assessed organisation.
